War Rescue Operations Update with Animals Lebanon — Rescue teams from Animals Lebanon successfully retrieved 16 cats from heavily bombed areas in Lebanon. All 16 cats were safely reunited with their families, while an additional 12 families received assistance with their displaced pets. The organisation’s teams entered high-risk zones affected by intense bombardment to reach animals abandoned during rapid evacuations. Many families had only minutes to flee their homes. Some managed to take their pets, but others were forced to leave them behind, trapped inside without food, water, or any means of escape. Animals Lebanon reported that its teams remain fully mobilised, receiving new rescue requests hourly. Each case is carefully assessed for urgency and security risks before operations proceed. How Animals Lebanon Is Helping: Rescuing animals trapped in affected and high-risk areas Providing urgent veterinary care to injured animals from war zones Distributing food and essential supplies for displaced pets Supplying boarding cages so cats can remain safely with their guardians in shelters Offering travel crates to families fleeing with their animals Entering war-affected zones when feasible to retrieve left-behind pets The update highlighted the harsh reality for pets amid the conflict: many remain trapped in empty homes, terrified by ongoing explosions, and waiting for their families to return. Animals Lebanon stated it is doing everything possible to continue these efforts, but urgently requires additional funding to sustain rescue operations, including supplies, equipment, transportation, and support for field teams. Donations are directed to the organisation’s GoFundMe campaign (the link is typically available in their bio on Instagram and Facebook). Those needing assistance with pets are encouraged to reach out directly, while volunteers, foster homes for displaced animals, and financial supporters are warmly welcomed. The organisation concluded with a message of resilience: Lebanon is exhausted, but the teams will not stop their work to help animals caught in the crisis. animalslebanon | Instagram | Linktree

The Incredible Migration of the Monarch Butterfly And the Secret to how they Navigate 3000 Miles Every autumn, monarch butterflies embark on one of the most extraordinary migrations on Earth — travelling up to 3,000 miles from Canada and the United States to the mountains of Mexico. In this article, I explore the science behind their journey — including the remarkable “biological compass” that allows them to navigate using the sun, polarized light, and even Earth’s magnetic field — all guided through their antennae. But this story goes deeper than science. It traces their fragile life cycle, their dependence on disappearing milkweed, and the growing threats pushing their populations into decline — alongside the cultural and spiritual significance they hold in Mexico, where they are seen as returning ancestral souls. This is a story of endurance, intelligence, and survival — but also a reminder of how much this migration now depends on human action. open.substack.com/pub/carlitasha…

The Bearcat- Bingturong I’ve been seeing a few videos go viral on the Binturong, so I am putting this out to combat the fad it is feeding in Asia, to raise awareness of the spiral effects such videos have in encouraging the illegal exotic pet trade. The Binturong—often called the “bearcat”—has quietly become a social media curiosity, its unusual appearance and popcorn-like scent drawing attention across platforms. But behind the novelty lies a troubling reality: this surge in online fascination is not helping the species—it’s putting it at greater risk. As demand for “unique” wildlife content grows, binturongs are increasingly being: captured from the wild kept illegally as pets used as props for paid photos or tourist interactions This strips them from their natural rainforest homes and fuels a trade that thrives on novelty, not conservation. Binturongs are not domestic animals. They are arboreal, solitary, and deeply tied to forest ecosystems in Southeast Asia, where they play a vital role as seed dispersers. Removing them from the wild disrupts not only their lives—but the forests they help sustain. If you see: people offering paid photos with binturongs individuals keeping them as pets online sales or promotion of these animals please report it to local wildlife authorities or conservation organisations. And just as importantly: Do not engage, share, or support content that encourages their exploitation in the illegal pet trade, instead raise awareness to protect them. Every like, share, or paid interaction in social media reinforces a system that turns wild beings into commodities. True appreciation of wildlife means: respecting their place in the wild refusing to participate in exploitative trends and using our voices to protect, not popularise, their suffering Let the binturong remain what it is meant to be— a quiet guardian of the rainforest canopy, not a prop for fleeting attention.—CS

Maverick - a #quarterhorse, not a #mustang - was left here by a ranch hand and joined a wild herd. With a seahorse blaze, he’s still got some great moves for a 30yo. He was delighted when treatment for a skin infection ended so he could leave the barn and go back to his friends.

Update on the Battle to Save Wyoming's Wild Horses A Call to Save Wyoming’s Wild Horses Wyoming’s Last Wild Gallop: A Call to Save the Red Desert’s Wild Horses In the vast, windswept plains of Wyoming’s Red Desert, where sagebrush stretches to the horizon and the hoofbeats of wild horses echo through time, a critical battle for heritage, freedom, and ecological integrity continues. The iconic wild horses of the Great Divide Basin, Salt Wells Creek, and parts of Adobe Town—descendants of those that carried explorers, settlers, and Native Americans across the frontier remain symbols of resilience and the untamed American West. These herds, numbering between roughly 2,500 and 5,000 in the targeted areas, faced an unprecedented threat: the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) planned to completely “zero out” their presence from 2.1 million acres of the “checkerboard” region (a mix of public and private lands, nearly the size of Delaware), starting as early as July 15, 2025. This marks the largest attempted eradication of wild horses in U.S. history, driven largely by pressures from private landowners like the Rock Springs Grazing Association. The Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971—passed unanimously by Congress in response to public outcry over population declines from human encroachment and mustangers—declares these animals “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West” and an “integral part of the natural system.” It made harassing or killing them on federal land a federal crime and established herd management areas on public lands. Recent Legal Victories and Delays The tide turned dramatically in July 2025. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit ruled in favour of advocacy groups, including the American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC), Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), Western Watersheds Project, and others, finding that the BLM acted arbitrarily and capriciously. The agency failed to adequately consider whether eliminating entire herds would maintain a “thriving natural ecological balance” as required by the Act, violating federal law. Musician Willie Nelson’s Open Letter Demanding More Protection for Wild Horses Dated October 2021—It was released in late October 2021 in partnership with the advocacy group Return to Freedom, marking the 50th anniversary of the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. The letter calls for ending large-scale roundups by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), improving humane fertility control, and passing the SAFE Act to prevent horse slaughter. A letter from Willie Nelson: Wild horses need our help today Fifty years ago, Congress unanimously voted in protections for America’s wild horses and burros through a law called the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. That might have been the end of the story if Congress hadn’t then passed a multiple-use mandate forcing wild horses, burros, and other wildlife to share the protected land with private livestock grazing, energy projects, and public recreation. It created conflict between the Bureau of Land Management, ranchers, energy developers, and wild horse advocates, and has created a situation where the wild horses are outnumbered. Since then, the Bureau of Land Management has been setting an arbitrary number for how many wild horses it thinks ought to be on our public lands, and then using taxpayer-funded helicopters to round up the herds when it has decided there are too many. Wild horses, like other wild animals, were meant to be wild and free. Historic family bands are broken as the horses are separated forever. Some are adopted or sold, and many thousands more end up living in crowded corrals or leased pastures, exposed to the elements. Some end up slaughtered for human consumption overseas. The wild horses need us humans to come up with solutions that will end roundups, stop the stockpiling of horses, and ensure their safety. Congress has provided money for this, but the Bureau of Land Management will have to make changes and improve fertility control. So far, they are failing to live up to this new direction. We must speak up. Without pressure on the Bureau of Land Management from many groups, advocates for wild horses, and lawmakers, these historic symbols of American freedom will disappear. Help us break the cycle of wild horse roundup and removal by calling your members of Congress today through the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and urging them to support all efforts in Congress to end the massive roundups of wild horses, and increase the use of safe and humane fertility control; also to protect all horses from slaughter by passing the SAFE Act immediately. Our elected officials must know this is a priority for the American people. Let’s heal our divisions by coming together for this common purpose. – Willie Nelson

Episode 67- Susan Schenck: They Called Me a Conspiracy Theorist- How I Got Red‑Pilled and Targeted “And there is always the odd person who still wears a mask. Sometimes it’s fear, sometimes it’s habit. To me, it is a reminder of how deep the psychological operation went. Governments and media managed to convince millions that the air itself was their enemy, and that compliance was the highest virtue. Even after the mandates were gone, the fear lived on. I realize that COVID didn’t just change laws, or economies, or travel rules. It changed the way people looked at each other. It created suspicion where there used to be trust. It turned neighbors into enforcers, friends into strangers, and some family members into enemies. And while the virus came and went, the fear it planted became a new kind of pandemic. One of obedience and silence.” carlitashaw.substack.com/p/episode-67-s…

In today’s relentless stream of headlines and alerts, the impact on our nervous system is nerves stay taut, heartbeats quicken, cortisol surges, the body braces as if danger lurks behind every ping, we have been programmed to be on constant alert, and to feel guilty if we are not up to date with the latest news. The truth is this wears down on cortisol and the body’s natural biorhythms and so disconnecting is an act of self preservation. This is why the body and mind can heal when we step beneath an ancient forest canopy, and that clamour of constant disruption fades, allowing the body to move into stillness, under dappled sunlight filtering through leaves, birdsong thread the air, the scent of forest moss and earth rises like a quiet balm. Breath deepens, muscles release, and a profound stillness arrives. This is physiology meeting something sacred, a return to nature and the peace we are deprived of in the modern human world. Read full article below. For those carrying deep trauma or loss—personal betrayals, war’s lingering shadows, collective wounds from pandemics or a the subconscious grieving of a planet on the brink, the forest becomes compassionate medicine. open.substack.com/pub/carlitasha…
