In 2022, what won Scaloni the World Cup was moving on from the hierarchy and making some very big calls. Enzo and Mac Allister were never starters going into that World Cup, but after that Saudi Arabia game, big calls were made, and Argentina wouldn’t have won the World Cup without it. Yet, four years on, when it’s time to make similarly brave calls, he simply refuses to do so, and I cannot bring myself to understand it. Ok, fine, you don’t want to start with the likes of Paz and Simeone. It is what it is. But for them to get ZERO minutes off the bench, when this side is in dire need of dynamism everytime Messi isn’t on the ball? It’s inexcusable. No width, no legs, no pace. It’s Messi or nothing 95% of the time.

The Egypt disallowed goal, Rodri handball vs Belgium and the Embolo yellow card for diving are the ultimate test to see if someone actually understands the football rules correctly.

I have no problem with this outcome. Embolo embellished with the intent of getting another player booked. It’s a yellow card for simulation — not sure what the controversy is here? Don’t dive

Bright side: no one on a yellow will ever flop in a World Cup knockout game again

This exact same situation happened in the USA’s opening game at this World Cup. Yet somehow, it’s only became an issue when it happened in an Argentina game.

@mangoheadsul Like I said, horrible flop, but a second yellow is always been treated as much more significant

I mean I just don’t think someone should be sent off for simulation in a World Cup quarterfinal when it’s a first simulation offense I’m aware it was a horrible flop and some people will disagree, but even the referee consultant on the broadcast said it was harsh

@theoldzealand Zealand... I ask you this... if I am on a yellow already do I just get to dive and hope to get yellow cards to the other team because I know they wont give me a second yellow cuz its against the spirit of the game... (asked with respect)

The official referee consultant just said on the US broadcast: “It’s legally correct but it’s against the spirit of the game and it’s not what the rule was written with in mind” What are we even doing

THIS! This is the point... if I am on a yellow card and its against the spirit of the game to give me a second yellow for diving if they go to VAR, I'm going to dive more... You cannot just ignore the rule because we "feel bad for embolo" or "its Argentina its rigged." Its a RULE

It sucks for the competitiveness of the match but I’m sorry, that is a horrific dive lol. We pick and choose what situations we want to punish. So now we don’t want that punished? I can’t keep up.

Watching a player flop at the World Cup and then complain that he got caught is like watching a defensive back in football CLEARLY commit a pass interference penalty and complain like we didn’t just watch him hold the WR like a grudge in 4k.
