Antoine Felden on RNZ tonight talking about honey bee health and virus-virus interactions. A virus in parasitic varroa mites might be of benefit to bees rnz.co.nz/national/progr… Work with @EmsyRemsy

@drsammytweets check this out, would be curious to do similar stuff with Tropi mites. Good to meet you last week in Christchurch!

Our ⁦@MarsdenFund⁩ work looks at honey bee, Argentine ant & virus interactions. Ants clearly stress bees. This little video shows a hive with ant control & a hive under Argentine ant attack. Bees under heavy ant attack for days absconded. ⁦@VicUniWgtn

The latest paper from Antoine Felden's (@AntoineFelden) time in our group, showing that Argentine ant populations exhibit range-specific transcriptomic signatures. @NeobiotaJournal @MonashBiol #MonashGeneticsHealth #MonashEvolution neobiota.pensoft.net/article/36086/

Super work on invasive wasps led by Jana Dobelmann and @pjlester. Pleased to have been part of this great collaboration as part of our work from Phase I of @BioHeritageNZ
Alana Alexander@laninsky

Excited to see this out! 'The association between mitochondrial genetic variation and reduced colony fitness in an invasive wasp' onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/me… Even if you aren't into mtDNA and/or wasps, worth checking out just for Jana's beautiful figures! #Fitness #InvasiveSpecies

Fitness estimates of invasive wasps, per nest, were higher in the native range than in the NZ invaded range. Microbial networks were more complex in NZ. Very little enemy release. Not what we expected! Thanks to @MarsdenFund & in support of @BioHeritageNZ

@afisher_ talks about cannibalism in praying mantises, showing that pre-copulatory cannibalism is not a behavioural by-product associated with aggression towards prey #NZEnto19

Antoine Felden at the @NZ_EntoSoc conference on Argentine ants, their immune response, and viruses. Different virus families induce distinct immune responses. Using dsRNA he is trying to manipulate ant immunity to these viruses #NZENTO19@AntoineFelden

Wasps are the least popular study taxon among social insect researchers. In 20 years of IUSSI meetings (despite what #termite researchers say!) it is wasps that are the forgotten group. Come on #wasp researchers: spread the #wasplove! With @CiniAles. #iussi2018
