It was a civillian area first and a religious space second, its military application was defensive at best as the Night Elves only ever wage defensive wars. Not to mention, by destroying it Sylvanas was effectively trying to kill all the Night Elves.

"The demons are good actually" is dumb in every single one of its itterations. Also their tech suits looked dumb, doubly so because their weapons had a demonic aesthetic, but their armour was generic high tech crap. Bruce Campbell as Satan was dope tho, he should've had a gun.
