30 years ago, I went to a village in the outskirts of Salem, while washing my hand in a public tap , I found worms in the water, then i came to know that people in that village used this water for drinking and cooking. When I climbed the tank I saw a cesspool inside. Dead cats, crows, slippers, bottles etc. the tank had no lid. It was a 30000 ltr over head drinking water tank. There were 3 other tanks in the same village, each was worse than the other. Spoke to the village president, he expressed his helplessness. Then I approached the BDO ( Block development officer) he said every panchayat gets funds it's upto them to do the cleaning , everyone in the bureaucracy was driving me from pillar to post just to clean the tank in public interest People of course were expecting others to do the cleaning. So as a trial I got permission from the village president to clean the tank , i employed few boys to do the job. These water tanks were not cleaned for many many years before that. While cleaning 🧹 we removed one feet thick of black sediments from each tank. Then we gave a coat of white cement inside, and put a lid where it was missing. The response from the people was overwhelming, the word spread and village after village invited us to get the water tanks cleaned. In each tank we painted the last cleaned date, this became a trend, every three months I sent my boys to clean the tanks. At one stage we were serving over 150 villages in Salem district, we did this service for 12 years and ensured every village got clean potable drinking water If serving people is politics so be it

Her name was Leila Seth. She was born on October 20 1930 in Lucknow. She grew up during the partition years. She was married at 22 and followed her husband Prem to London while he completed his studies. She was 27 years old and pregnant when she decided to study law. She enrolled at the Inns of Court. In 1958 she topped the bar examination, finishing first among all candidates from England and Wales. A London newspaper ran her photograph with the headline referring to her as “Mother in Law.” She had given birth months before the exam. She was the first Indian woman to top the London Bar exam. She came back to India and built a legal career in Patna for ten years. In 1978 she became the first woman judge of the Delhi High Court. In 1991 she became Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the first woman to hold that position in any High Court in independent India. She served on the 15th Law Commission of India from 1997 to 2000. Her work during that period led directly to the Hindu Succession Amendment Act of 2005, which gave Hindu daughters equal rights to ancestral property for the first time in Indian law. After the Nirbhaya gang rape in December 2012 she was appointed to the Justice JS Verma Committee, which recommended the sweeping changes to sexual assault laws that followed. Her son is the novelist Vikram Seth. She died on May 5 2017. She was 86 years old. She had pledged to donate her organs and her family held no funeral. A prayer meeting was held in her honour instead. She topped the bar exam in England while pregnant. She became the first woman Chief Justice of an Indian High Court. She helped give daughters the right to inherit ancestral property. She helped rewrite India’s rape laws. Most Indians know her son’s book. Almost none know her story. Today, I submitted a written request to Union Minister for Minority Affairs @KirenRijiju ji seeking the exercise of the Centre's supervisory powers to remove properties that have been illegally uploaded on the UMEED portal. The Waqf Board registered 404 acres of Munambam land on the portal without complying with the provisions of the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) framework and the applicable provisions of the Waqf Act. Under the law, only the Mutawalli is authorised to upload Waqf property records to the UMEED portal. In this case, that authority rests with Farook College. Yet, without following due process, the Waqf Board unilaterally registered the property. These violations have been formally brought to the attention of the Government of India, and we expect appropriate action at the earliest. The people of Munambam deserve justice, and we will continue to pursue every legal and administrative avenue until it is delivered. #APAKADAMPolitics
