If I'm Vijay, this is what I would do now:
First I would announce the following.
Though people have given their mandate, it is not numerically enough. I'm willing to sit as opposition leader and work for the welfare of Tamil Nadu. Let anyone else form the government.
Since no one else is in a position to form the government as the idea of ADMK government being supported from outside by DMK is also being given up, there are only two options for political parties.
Either they make me the Chief Minister or face elections. The reality is no one is ready to face reelections.
Most likely, I would be invited to form the government as the single largest party with other parties informally assuring governor they would not pull down my government. When voting happens, other parties would simply walk out from the assembly giving me the required majority. I need not be dependent on Congress or Communists or VCK or IUML to run my government.
I would run a single party government and not get into unworkable alliance.
What is the risk in this?
If someone else is able to cobble up the numbers and form government, I would have to sit as an opposition leader. This is an opportunity for me to prove how I ask right questions and raise issues which are important for the state. I definitely have an opportunity to become Chief Minister in future.
Another risk is when parties are ready for reelections, they would bring no confidence motion and remove me from power.
100% yes. So if I'm able to be the Chief Minister for 2 or 3 years in the absence of no other party being able to form the government, I'll go 100% offence, work and prove why I'm the best Chief Minister the state can get. I'll only do what I want and would not listen to other parties. They can't do anything to me till they are ready for elections.
