This is…yikes! 😬 “She also coordinated with Vrabel about how to respond to the Post, said a person with knowledge of the communication.” “While The Athletic had been quick to rush to her defense ahead of the story, now executives asked for more evidence from Russini such as text messages about an airport pickup, screenshots of planning the trip or photos from a hike, the three people said. They said Russini never provided sufficient evidence.”

@Chris_Smith202 @PaulTweetsRIP Neither have I, it’s odd, have no interest. I don’t need to agree with any of them, it’s the not acknowledging any of it that makes the pods seem like propaganda.

PHLY did a great job finally acknowledging Russini Vrabel by blaming the viewers for the show getting it wrong. Focusing on a dumb take a few fans have to deflect.

So when it comes to sports media, my coverage is in sports gambling so my coverage often doesn’t go here. I’m not a reporter so this isn’t my job. The thing is: I’m from Southwest Philadelphia & unlike most of the people in sports media which consist of primarily white males, I actually resemble and come from the same places that the players come from so naturally I have mutual friends of athletes and coaches. I hear things all the time and don’t say it. For example, I knew about Malik Beasley’s gambling issues a year and half before it became a story.
Stephen Cameron@StephenMagicHQ

I want to be respectful of Raheem, he may very well have a source, but I wonder who and what type of source it is and how credible they are. Because as someone who follows the Magic very closely I haven’t seen Raheem cover them in a way where I automatically think this is true.

Dianna Russini is not addressing the nature of her relationship with Mike Vrabel at all. She is blaming "commentators" for "self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts" – but is not stating what the facts are... cnn.com/2026/04/14/med…

@burackbobby_ And now she stopped the employer review by resigning. Can only assume that was her motive or it was even worse that we saw with our own eyes.

Dianna Russini is resigning, but she's sticking to her side of the story. She's stating she's leaving b/c of The Athletic's handling of the situation and the "narrative" that's starting to define her. I take this as a doubling down on the innocence of the interaction w/ Vrabel.
Rob Maaddi@RobMaaddi

In a letter sent Tuesday to Athletic Executive Editor Steven Ginsberg and obtained by The Associated Press, Dianna Russini said: “I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published. When the Page Six item first appeared, The Athletic supported me unequivocally, expressed confidence in my work and pride in my journalism. For that I am grateful. In the days that followed, unfortunately, commentators in various media have engaged in self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts. Moreover, this media frenzy is hurtling forward without regard for the review process The Athletic is trying to complete. It continues to escalate, fueled by repeated leaks, and I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept. Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now — before my current contract expires on June 30. I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”

@jemelehill The most eye opening of all this is the protection of colleagues in the sports reporting landscape. With a female reporter it's just gross and then probably grosser for the men, yes you are probably right. Clearly she is resigning rather than face a review.

@RobMaaddi Unless Russini was holding Vrabel against his will I don't see why she resigned. They're both adults who had an affair. That's not a crime. The only injured parties are the spouses and children they cheated on and that's a private matter and no one else's concern.

@BostonByBirth He might have conspired for that coach of the year award. Would be difficult to prove fraud but certainly a theft from coaches who had bonuses in their contracts. Mike also made everyone bring up Robert Kraft’s hand jobs. Never good to upset the boss.

I will say this, if Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini were conspiring to tank A.J. Brown’s trade value, that’s a BIG issue. That’s the only way Mike is exposed in the situation. Dianna is already exposed because she’s a journalist.

@Tex55747690 @RB8780 @GlennDOrdway Reporters have the ability to lower a player’s trade value with rumors. She also votes on coach of the year, an award several coaches have a bonus attached to. Could be mutual, unethical sex but could def be more. Can Shanahan hire a prostitute to destroy mcvays marriage?

For Vrabel this is just embarrassing but he's not going to lose his job..It may affect him somewhat in the locker room if players see some hypocrisy But for Russini this could be far more damaging if her version of the story doesn't hold up

Quick NBA history note… Only six players had at least SIX top-2 MVP finishes — Kareem, MJ, LeBron, Russell, Wilt and Bird. Only Russell and Bird finished top-2 for 6 years in a row. Jokic went 1-1-2-1-2 the last 5 years — and has a legit chance to finish 2nd this season.
