I posted this in a polite conversation but I figure it's worth adding a bit on how melee damage can quickly max out: Shells get a base Melee Damage stat. - Destroyer gets 15. - Assassin, Thief and Rook get 10. - Recon, Triage and Vandal get 5. Like you mentioned, Arachne gives upgrades. Each tier of Hard Strike gives +20 damage. Fully upgraded is a total of +60. Implants can also buff melee damage. Knife Fight makes this trivial, V3 (Blue) gives +40 melee damage. There's others, too. (Edge Runner with Knife Fight is soooo fun.) I mention all of this because it's easy to think something "Free Kit/Rook = Weak" when the attacking player might already invested in Arachne or may have grabbed an implant. I'm generally very hesitant to call for nerfs with this sort of thing because I know how awful it'll be if there's nothing keeping top tier gear in check.

Marathon's knife keeps you from getting bullied by top tier kits. (Somewhat) No player should be roaming without fear. If the fully-geared guy that streams all day has nothing to worry about, what's the counter-play? The fear of the knife adds to their cognitive load, which is very important when dealing with games that involve risk. It's scary when that Rook shows up, ready to cut you down in an instant. Personal note: I love knife Rooks. They're terrifying and that rules. Losing is part of the game. No matter how strong you are, you are not invincible. (Not trying to snipe out @Caaandor, wanting the knife to be nerfed is reasonable. I just politely disagree!)

@ottrTweets Are lobbies actually balanced on level tho? I was crew filled into a match with someone who was 31 I was 62 and the other guy was 110 that’s some crazy mix in levels lol

I think Bungie should fix the spawns on Dire Marsh and consider removing 1 team from the match. I'm tired of getting jumped by other teams 1 minute into every match. And if we survive that, we immediately get 3rd partied right after that. I much prefer the PvP on the other maps
