@ApexOppressor @Super70sSports Alternatively, you could knock somebody out cold by hitting them in the back of the head once, and they would always be just fine when they woke up. Easy peasey.

What was with our society’s obsession with quicksand when we were kids? At the time I genuinely believed it was one of the world’s leading causes of death. Every birthday marked another 365 days of somehow avoiding quicksand,

@askaya Looks fade, & I'm going to have to talk with her...even if she's got a great personality that difference in comprehension & recall is going to get tiresome. Don't think I could do it

@andrewpconnell I LOVE shorts in hot weather. Nothing makes a hot day the worst it can be than having your legs bound up in long pants. Idgaf what people think about it--they are welcome to be miserable

@CrazyVibes_1 I'm quite certain my mother got HBO & the cable package early on (1981 in a small town) as a surrogate parent for us. She was very much a hands-off parent. So I & my brother, naturally, were exposed to all the Premium channels had to offer at a young age.

Dear Gen X, I’ve been watching 80s movies and I just need to know…WHERE WERE YOUR PARENTS?? Every child was just wandering the earth unsupervised like a raccoon with house keys. Riding bikes across town at midnight, fighting ghosts, investigating murders, befriending cryptids, hacking government computers for funsies… And the parents were ALWAYS “out of town” or “working late” while the only adult-adjacent supervision was some random 16-year-old who got dragged into the chaos. No cell phones. No helmets. No adult supervision. Just vibes, life lessons, and several near-death experiences. You all weren’t “raised.” You were lightly monitored feral creatures with a bike and unresolved trauma. I’m genuinely shocked there are enough of you left to populate an entire generation.

If that's the hypothetical that you can only save one; emotions aside, the mother is far more valuable. Unless she's already old & the birth will wreck any further reproductive capacity. But yeah, you're probably right. I'm not a doctor but I do know C-sections are routinely done (even when unnecessary, imo, but I guess vaginal birth is more of a liability) so I would expect saving one over the other never comes up. & if the mother wants to sacrifice herself, allow it

@ApexOppressor Hard disagree, anyway, it’s an absurd feminist coded question in the modern age where there is never a reason both mother and child cannot be saved.

Heartbreaking that it’s inconceivable to 100k+ people that a woman would want her child’s life prioritized over her own. This was once the norm. Carrying a child for nine months changes you both physically and mentally, something shifts that makes your life feel both less and far more than it ever was. Less because you are not all that matters, and far more because part of you (and hopefully the man you love) has gone into the formation of another human, one whose entire existence relies on you, who is perhaps the most innocent, vulnerable being on earth, and whose love and trust you are meant to treasure beyond measure. That so many people do not or cannot comprehend this, is what will end life as we know it. No AI, no war, could compete with such levels of despair.

@JustineBateman @SPIN Saw "Weapons" a few days ago. It was alright--nothing ground-shaking, imo. BUT there was no "Messaging", no "progressive-coded" bs. It was just a movie telling a story & for that it deserves an Oscar in the "Just make some fucking entertainment, willya?" category

"The Horror! The Horror!" As a contributing film editor at @SPIN Magazine, I've been writing essays for their print magazine. On my RACE TRACK site, I've posted the second one from the Winter '26 issue. "Something new and exciting is happening in film. And it’s scaring the hell out of people. Over the past decade or so, most new movies in most genres have mainly consisted of endless sequels, remakes, or superhero movies. Indie films of the past five years have seemed consumed with showcasing various “causes.” And the streamers continue to be committed to as much “volume content” as they can churn out. In the horror genre, however, something else entirely is happening. Creative innovation and the fostering of new directors have bloomed in this genre. Over the past five to 10 years, the horror genre has delivered a slew of very well-done films that are intellectually and creatively provocative. These are not your typical revenge-based slasher films or your standard devil-harassment films but rather more metaphorical. “Elevated Horror” is the term — HEREDITARY, GET OUT, THE BLACK PHONE, WEAPONS, NOSFERATU, etc." Read the rest at link below.

Women do more housework. 200% more. Living alone, compared to men living alone. Women do more housework not because they're oppressed or because it makes them healthier or happier (they're the most medicated for depression). The do it because they like it. They do it because they're driven to because of their biological role. The only people oppressed by housework are the men that are forced to do it by the women that are so egocentric they can't imagine anyone else being any different than them.

I was in "Little Beirut"--Portland, OR, & it was shutting down over covid. Revolutionary Portland tucked their Power Fists between their legs & masked up like the State told them to. But when Floyd died, it was like a zombie movie where one of the remaining living humans makes a loud, non-zombie noise & all of a sudden the zombies start marching en masse towards them

I was still kind of a lib in 2020 but I was totally unmoved by Floyd’s death. It wasn’t revelatory to me (just an ugly, pointless, small tragedy) and I didn’t think it meant anything. What I’ll always remember was how it felt to remain completely sober while so many people were swept away - it was disorienting to be in a totally different reality than the dominant culture, I almost felt like I was on drugs.

Today, we remember George Floyd, who was murdered by a former Minneapolis police officer six years ago.   That moment changed our city forever.

Well, if you don't have Central Air AC & you live in a rowhouse & people are cooking & whatnot & raising the temp in the walls connecting to your house & it goes a few degrees higher than 79F (& you can't afford a window AC unit or a floor model) then okay, maybe you have a point. But 79F is warm, but not "hot"

Yeah...but a raw potato is quite different from a raw tomato. They're crunchy & starchy; they really need to be cooked. Cooking is good for tomatoes too, of course but they can be ok raw. My complaint about raw tomatoes is that most are artificially ripened and are like cardboard in texture & flavor
