As long as they announce it up front - so it’s part of your contract to dictate the price you’ll pay - cool.
If it makes my meal too expensive, I won’t go to the place .
Adding it unannounced after I’ve eaten is not acceptable and would be in breach of contract as far as it goes .

I wouldn’t go to such a restaurant. The standard in South Africa is about 10% and it’s only levied automatically if there is a party of 8 to 10 people or more. A tip is a measure of your satisfaction that you obtained in dining out. If it’s not satisfactory you should be at liberty to say so in the quantum of your tip.

People are divided on this. A restaurant automatically added a 25% tip to every dinner bill. The owner says it guarantees fair pay for servers. Some customers say tipping should always be optional. Should restaurants be allowed to add automatic tips?
