@BiologyCarly What apparently arrived at the Fedex facility in Tucson was a very large, very smelly box, with a smaller box of dead beetles inside. My friend was alerted to this by a cadre of police officers that came to our grad offices to escort her to pick up her package

@BiologyCarly A friend ran an anthro class that went on a traditional buffalo hunt. They helped butcher the animal, tan the hide, and were going to prep the skull. That skull got put in a box, to be shipped with dermestid beetles. Someone forgot to open the container of beetles...

What is your most unhinged story from grad school? Mine was probably the time I picked a dead flounder up off the lab floor and then ran to a public bathroom with it in my hands and sobbed over its body in a stall.

I found out last week that I've been awarded tenure at Bates, and more than anything I feel a deep gratitude for everyone who has helped me get here, in countless different ways. Thanks to everyone who has played a role. I'm forever grateful.

Something I've been thinking about a lot lately is that, for so many of us in academia, our career successes are built upon a mountain of labor - often less visible - performed by our advisors, students, families, and faculty & staff colleagues...
