📊【Latest Research】A recent study by Professor Youngwong Kim, Associate Professor of #HKUSPH and Dr Qiaoxin Shi, shows that engaging in different intensities of physical activity is associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D), irrespective of genetic background. The study highlights that even light physical activity can be beneficial for preventing T2D. 📄Paper now published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #HKU #HKUMed #HKUSPH #HKUPublicHealth #PublicHealth #HealthyLiving #DiabetesPrevention #GetActive #StayHealthy #Research #GlobalHealth #HKUResearch

【Latest Research】#HKUSPH reveals high muscle strength can prevent type 2 diabetes (T2D), regardless of genetic susceptibility. ✅ 44% lower relative risk of T2D in people with high muscle strength compared to those with low muscle strength. ✅People with high genetic risk may have a lower absolute risk of T2D if they maintain high muscle strength, compared to those with low/medium genetic risk but low muscle strength. ‘Our study supports the current public health guidelines which suggest that adults should engage in muscle-strengthening activities for at least two days per week from a disease prevention perspective,’ said Professor Youngwon Kim, Assistant Professor of #HKUSPH. The study was led by Professor Youngwon Kim, #HKUSPH Assistant Professor. Members of the research team including Dr Wang Mengyao (PhD graduate); Dr Paul James Collings (Post-doctoral Fellow); Professor @Ryan_Au_Yeung, #HKUSPH Assistant Professor; and Dr @AprilShanLuo, Research Assistant Professor from the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine. 📚 Read article: bit.ly/3RqLSQn #hkusph #hku #HKUMed #publichealth #schoolofpublichealth #muscle #type2diabetes

📗Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatoticliver disease (MASLD) has emerged as the most prevalent cause of chronic liver disease worldwide affecting over one-third of the adult population.🌟Shan Luo's team from The University of Hong Kong introduced the application of drug-target Mendelian randomization (MR) in MASLD, exploring its potential in identifying drug targets and assessing safety. This work offers new insights for advancing drug development in the field of MASLD.🌟Don't miss this deep exploration in eGastroenterology!🔍📖#MASLD #MR Read it here👉 : egastroenterology.bmj.com/content/2/4/e1… @Gut_BMJ @BMJ_Open @FrontGastro_BMJ
