The Egyptian army is facing a conspiracy similar to the one it faced during the rule of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser when he sent a third of the Egyptian army, along with its most skilled officers and pilots, to Yemen in 1962 to fight the Yemenis. Only 15,000 soldiers returned, most suffering from malaria, injuries, and psychological trauma. During that period, Israel exploited the weakness and collapse of the Egyptian army and launched a war against Egypt on June 5, 1967. Egypt was defeated in six days in what became known as the June War. Nasser himself acknowledged this in his resignation speech, saying: "The war in Yemen had a significant impact on weakening our military capabilities.
The difference between Sisi and Nasser is that Nasser may not have been aware of the plots being hatched against Egypt because he was misled into believing that the royalists in Yemen were supported by Saudi Arabia and that the republicans had no support. Therefore, he thought his intervention in Yemen was for the sake of Arab nationalism and republicanism. As for Sisi, he knows very well that the target is the Egyptian army before any other country, and that the UAE will become a quagmire for the modern Egyptian army, just as Yemen was previously a quagmire for the former Egyptian army.

UAE leaving OPEC is a sign of the ongoing deterioration of any remnant of Arab largesse.
Sure the U.S. may be strategically defeated by Iran with a deal, but the U.S. can still make up their losses. Iran presumably will cement their influence in the Gulf.
The Arabs will lose A LOT. Once a deal goes through, the oil price will drop significantly. That’s tens of billions of dollars not maintaining the rentier Arab system. One can only hope a better Arab Spring will emerge.

This is inaccurate: there were two groups, a far larger one next to the Real Estate Bank, and this small one at the roundabout itself that was attacked by counterprotestors. The individuals holding placards were mostly older women, and some middle aged men.
