On Palm Sunday, we hear two Gospels each year – the first where the people of Jerusalem welcome Jesus as King and Son of David, acknowledging Him as the Messiah, and the second Gospel where the people of Jerusalem shout, “Let Him be crucified,” in answer to Pilate’s question. It shows the fickleness of the human heart.   As we walk through Holy Week with Our Lord, let us reflect on the ways in which we have, like many of the apostles, forsaken Jesus, left Him alone in loneliness. I pray that this week will be a reminder of our need for greater conversion and greater love of God.

Nothing defines our Christian religion more, nothing defines the way in which we view all of reality more than the face and mystery of the Incarnation: God coming to Earth, being born of a Virgin, and assuming a human nature. May we live this reality in our daily lives, mirroring Our Lady’s fiat: May it be done to me according to Your word.

Last weekend, the Chinese Catholic community gathered at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption for the annual Chinese New Year Mass and celebration. The bi-lingual Mass in Chinese and English was celebrated by Archbishop Cordileone. In his homily, the archbishop reflected on New Year's resolutions that encourage Catholics to lead to virtuous lives. Listen to his homily below. youtu.be/x_s_Crik_Hc

"Ever Loving God, you called St. Katharine Drexel to teach the message of the Gospel and to bring the life of the Eucharist to the Black and Native American peoples. By her prayers and example, enable us to work for justice among the poor and oppressed. Draw us all into the Eucharistic community of Your Church, that we may be one in You." On Saturday, February 21, I celebrated the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass honoring couples who were celebrating anniversaries from newlyweds to those celebrating 66 years of marriage. In the covenantal union of husband and wife in marriage, serving as the foundation of the family, we see not only the gospel of love written anew in each marital commitment, but also the rewards of marital virtue incarnated through the children God deems fit to have them bring into the world. May God lavish His grace on the couples in the Archdiocese of San Francisco for walking the path of marital virtue so that they may reap its reward: the happiness of communion with each other and, in the end, perfect communion with Him forever in heaven.

We need to recognize our sins to convert. This itself is a sign and testimony of the Resurrection, as it means we will not remain among the ashes, but that we will rise up and rebuild. Only then will the Easter Triduum, which we will celebrate as the summit of the Lenten journey, unleash all its beauty and meaning. This will take place if we participate, through penance, in the passage from death to life, from powerlessness to the possibilities of God. #AshWednesday #Lent vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

"Grant, O Lord, that we may begin with holy fasting this campaign of Christian service, so that, as we take up battle against spiritual evils, we may be armed with weapons of self-restraint. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen."
