I still think Ethan fucked his whole case by openly admitting it was a setup. Ethan released a video after the fact where he talked about how he "tricked" them all into breaking the law. The problem with that is a huge aspect of what damages you can claim from a lawsuit like this comes from the "willful" nature of the act. Someone who "willfully" violates a law ends up paying more in damages. The problem is by the very nature of Ethan saying "I set them up" that essentially destroys the argument of willfulness. The only way you can claim you tricked someone into breaking a law is they had no idea they were breaking the law. That's literally implied in "I tricked you."
