Just for the record, Labor’s failure to #RaiseTheRate in Tuesday’s budget was an absolute disgrace! The tiny rise in rent assistance is far less than rent increases and the $300 power rebate won’t help the increasing numbers of unhoused people. Labor is a fecking disgrace!

Mother’s Day is not the same for everyone. Many celebrate, many mourn. But some had mean, narcissistic, selfish, ignorant, mothers. Some mothers did things to children that would make you sick. Not all mothers carry the caring gene. Not all mothers are missed on Mother’s Day.

Ok so I am pretty obviously having one of my infrequent depressive episodes (last one was nearly a decade ago) and could benefit from some mild antidepressants as I have before. Can I get that from my GP? I don’t have time to find a shrink.

It’s no secret that I have been struggling since the death of my parents last year - and along with my son’s ongoing mental health problems and my elderly dogs’ ill health - I’m finding it difficult to find my way back into a life that has changed and continues to change so dramatically around me. I have been blessed, however, with an outstanding husband and good women. Good women who have kept me going when I have otherwise not wanted to. A good woman neighbour who mows my lawn when my husband is away and I’m too mentally exhausted to bother. Another good woman who baked me cakes, treats and meals when I was in the midst of caring for my parents and probably not caring for myself. This good woman also helped me clean my parents’ homes out and helped me settle them into their respective nursing homes. Yet another good woman, who was first in my front door when my mother passed away to take some of the load of my grief on board and share some less painful memories with me. @EurekaJustice looking at you. A good woman who drove me to the funeral director’s after my mother passed away when my husband couldn’t get home from sea - held my hand while we made the final emotional arrangements and kept holding my hand metaphorically until my husband walked in the door. A good woman who came to dog sit my old, frail doggos - to give me one night out alone with my husband without stress. A good woman solicitor who took an entire company on on our behalf so that my husband was paid what he was owed. Good women who have shared their stories with me to let me know I am not alone on this journey and that I am also a good woman. The sisterhood is alive, well and unbroken. It is resilient and it is a force to be reckoned with. It is in the darkest of times that the sisterhood digs in and protects their own. I like to think that women paying it forward to other women throughout their lives and throughout the ages has created an indelible bond - despite the insurmountable challenges we have faced - both personally and collectively in society. Women are strong. United, women are a superpower. We can and we will change the future. Thank you ❤️
