@BadFilmTakes1 At minimum I think they work as good vehicles for some fantastic performances, Benicio in Sicario, Ryan and Ana in 2049, Timothee in Dune, etc.

I enjoy the work of Denis Villeneuve, but he has yet to blow my mind. His movies work better for me as a collection of screen savers than as dramatically or thematically satisfying works of art imo. He usually regurgitates rather than refines or expands on his influences.

@LegoKingo The insistence of some that secondhand and direct experience are the same thing is so strange to me. Like yeah it doesn't really matter all that much, its an extremely nerdy thing to care about, but there's a distinction to be made!!!

In general I don’t really care whether or not you have The Exact Authentic Experience when playing a game or watching a movie but I do think it is silly to watch or read a secondhand account of it instead of just experiencing it yourself.

@CaptainPikeachu @LegoKingo Ive heard the message before frankly and I just didnt find this delivery of it specifically compelling. I didnt think it was a bad movie but it was cinematically unremarkable. Ryan Gosling is fun to watch but his performance didnt really do that much for me.

Project Hail Mary is very much a “we have The Wandering Earth at home” type movie. I kept thinking about how much I’d rather be watching that movie. I had fun with Hail Mary though, definition of a 2.5/5

"Pretentious" has fallen out of fashion as an easy adjective to throw at people on film twitter when someone doesn't want to engage with a take they dislike so now people just say you're using buzzwords. The buzzwords in question usually being any words longer than 2-3 syllables.

If game devs can’t remember to take out placeholder AI assets that’s a good enough reason not to use them in the first place. How about you make em like a big green jpeg so it sticks out. You don’t even have to use AI to generate a big green jpeg

I dont really think its all that negative or modern of a desire. Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes had these two fellas, who were there entirely for comedic relief, who went on to appear in more movies because people just liked em' that much.

Doesn’t it suck now that you can’t put a small cool piece of worldbuilding that does a lot more with less and people are so incapable of just accepting it without begging for you to make sequels and spinoffs ad nauseum

@itspectahemo I dont really think that changes anything, personally. The nature of video games and being a "fan," of a video game remains the same. I get people who like a game's aesthetic, characters, etc, but I think of that as being different than being a fan of a game.

This has been such an insane discourse. Cant imagine the equivalent sentiments for other mediums getting traction yet here we are. Can you be a fan of a movie if you havent seen it, an album you havent heard, etc? It seems obvious.

in my opinion, if you don't have the means to experience a videogame yourself then you should simply not be a fan of it, there are more hobbies out there
