really thought when I became a digital archivist I was done handling gross things, but no one told me about flash drives in soft plastic cases that apparently get very sticky after 15 years

Y'all's archives have a lot of things that are kind of just shit condition, right? That predecessor non-film archivists acquired but didn't touch for 40 years and turn out to be really scratched and faded and of really questionable use value?

As an extremely uptight perfectionist, I've mostly learned to cope with the fact that archival work is piecemeal and 'good enough for now,' and everything you stop for one minute to work on leaves literally 10,000 other things on the shelf to disintegrate behind you

do any a/v archivists on here charge for VHS tape digitization and if so, what do you charge? #digipres
