I absolutely love observing the subtle (and not so subtle) behavior of our Wolfdog pack. There’s something so captivating and soothing about literally just sitting back and watching them - watching for the subtle cues and shifts.✨😌 It’s fairly uncommon to see a group this size in the rescue world, and I’ve gotten that comment a lot. Unfortunately, due to limited capacity (I wish I could afford acres and acres of land that I could partition into wolf yards!), I do have to say “no” to taking in wolfdogs on AT LEAST a monthly basis - I get requests from all over, as these guys are displaced out of the exotic pet trade very often. But, I’ve been very careful, mindful, and strategic with which wolfdog rescue placement requests that I say “yes” to, specifically in hopes of this; allowing a large group of these displaced animals to enjoy our beautiful, acre-large Wolf Yard. It’s been absolutely fascinating to tune in to the small (but meaningful!) shifts that have happened since Doji has really “grown into her own” after hitting 3 years old, after which point she clearly started to rise within the hierarchy to a position of leadership. If you were unfamiliar with this portion of my home-based sanctuary: Though I’ve been working with wild canines since I was 18 years old - specializing in foxes - Wolfdogs are a fairly new branch of my rescue work. Off the top of my head, I believe it was about five years ago that I agreed to temporarily take in two state-confiscated Wolfdogs, Dakota and Tikida (who has since passed 🪽). Well, in true Kim fashion 😅, after hearing about their prior situation and seeing how at home they felt here immediately upon arrival, “temporary” turned into me hyper-focusing on a vision, and within three months we had a completed Wolf Yard. 1 acre fenced in with 8 foot high high-tensile fencing on the inside of posts and smaller gauge welded wire on the exterior of posts (stops small/medium critters from entering), equipped with a few feet of buried dig guard fencing that runs perpendicular to the main perimeter fence, as well as climb guards - I refer to them as lean-ins - to prevent agile pack members from climbing over. Doji is an especially unique pack member. She is what you would refer to as a (true) Wolf Hybrid; her dad was a pure wolf. Most wolfdogs are actually generations removed from a pure wolf, and are just the result of breeding wolfdogs to wolfdogs or domestic dogs (an animal with both domestic dog breeds and varying degrees of wolf content). Doji came all the way from an Alaskan island where a lone, male wolf bred an outdoor female domestic dog! The village raised the puppies as they would any other litter, and honestly, they did an amazing job with them. Doji is an incredible and sweet girl. It is illegal to own a dog that has wolf content in many states, Alaska being one of them (New York as well - I have to hold several special state and federal permits in order to do what I do here). Based on what I was told, when the state got wind of it, they ordered the now-yearling pups to either go to legal sanctuaries, or, be euthanized. I am very thankful that we had the honor of being asked to take in one of these unique animals, because I’ve loved being “Mom” to Doji over the last 3 years, and I’m thankful I had the opportunity to connect with her original owners to give them some peace of mind and closure. They were wonderful, kind people who were genuinely happy to see the life that Doji has here. Also, speaking of - it’s been birthday season! High-content Wolfdogs (roughly 80% + wolf content) and F1 Wolf Hybrids are only born during this season, because unlike dogs, wolves have a specific hormonal cycle with 1 single, annual breeding season. Please join me in wishing Doji a happy (belated) 4th birthday! 🎉 Doji’s story was verified with trail cam images and a DNA test, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I never meet another wolfdog with a story like hers. 🐺

The reason why I think $Fox is a good hedge is because the team is donating creator fees to Kimberly and she can receive it right away.
