A video that has recently gone viral alleges that the @sultan_ofsokoto recently met with President @officialABAT and asked a simple question: If Nigeria needs a U.S. military base… why must it be in the North? Now hold that thought. Because a day or so later, Education Minster, @DrTunjiAlausa, on a UK trip with the President, is announcing below a partnership between his ministry, @NigEducation, and Coventry University to award UK degrees… in Nigeria. Location? Alaro, Lekki. Lagos. So let’s get this straight: One region gets foreign universities. Another gets proposed foreign military bases. Opportunity vs occupation. Books vs boots. Degrees vs drones. And no, this isn’t about Coventry University. That debate can wait. This is about a pattern. A pattern where development flows in one direction… And strategic burdens are shipped to another. Where Lagos gets foreign universities. The North gets foreign military bases. Coincidence? Maybe. But patterns, when repeated often enough, stop being accidents. They become policy. And the real tragedy? Other #Nigerian regions are too busy with petty politics to notice. And #Arewa, once the loudest political voice in the room, now watches in silence. Compromised. Muted. Managed. Docile. Absent. #AllahGaMuGareka
Dr. Tunji Alausa@DrTunjiAlausa

I’m in London with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and we are already making real progress — advancing a major partnership with Coventry University to bring UK degrees to Nigeria. This is personal. For too long, families have had to send their children thousands of miles away in search of quality education. We are changing that. With Coventry University Nigeria, our students will be able to earn fully accredited UK degrees — at significantly lower cost — without leaving the country. As I’ve said, we want Nigerian parents to enjoy having their children at home, while still receiving a world-class UK education. The proposed campus in Alaro City, Lagos will offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes across STEMM, Business, and TVET, with admissions expected between Q3 and Q4 of 2026 (subject to approvals). Beyond access, this is about building Nigeria’s human capital — developing the skills, talent, and workforce needed to drive innovation, productivity, and long-term national growth. We are bringing global opportunity home — where it belongs. #alausaedureform #NoDaysOff

Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country.  The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions.  After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion.

There are many false claims in this letter but let me address one specifically: that "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation."   This is the same false claim that Democrats and some in the liberal media have been repeating over and over.   As President Trump has clearly and explicitly stated, he had strong and compelling evidence that Iran was going to attack the United States first.   This evidence was compiled from many sources and factors. President Trump would never make the decision to deploy military assets against a foreign adversary in a vacuum.   Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The Iranian regime is evil. It proudly killed Americans, waged war against our country, and openly threatened us all the way up to the launch of Operation Epic Fury.   Iran was aggressively expanding their short-range ballistic missiles to combine with their naval assets to give themselves immunity – meaning they would have a degree of a capabilities that would give them immunity to hold us and the rest of the world hostage.   The regime aimed to use those ballistic missiles as a shield to continue achieving their ultimate goal – nuclear weapons.   The President, through his top negotiators, gave the regime every single possible opportunity to abandon this unacceptable course by permanently giving up their nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief, free nuclear fuel, and potential economic partnerships with our country.   But they would not say yes to peace because obtaining nuclear weapons was their fundamental goal.   President Trump ultimately made the determination that a joint attack with Israel would greatly reduce the risk to American lives that would come from a first strike by the terrorist Iranian regime and address this imminent threat to America’s national security interests.   All of this led to President Trump arriving at the determination that this military operation was necessary for U.S. national security, which is why he launched the massively successful Operation Epic Fury. The Commander-in-Chief determines what does and does not constitute a threat, because he is the one constitutionally empowered to do so - and because the American people went to the ballot box and entrusted him and him alone to make such final judgments. And finally, the absurd allegation that President Trump made this decision based on the influence of others, even foreign countries, is both insulting and laughable. President Trump has been remarkably consistent and has said for DECADES that Iran can NEVER possess a nuclear weapon. As someone who actually witnesses President Trump’s decision-making process on a daily basis, I can attest to the fact that he is always looking to do what’s in the best interest of the United States of America — period. America First.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

It was going well until you inserted the paragraph below: “The NBA calls for calm and restraint on all sides and urges that any grievances arising from courtroom incidents be addressed through appropriate institutional and disciplinary mechanisms. Where necessary, the Association will engage with relevant authorities to ensure that the rule of law, professional standards, and judicial ethics are upheld.” A judge has erred and desecrated the temple of justice but you are calling for calm and restraint. Too bad!
AFAM OSIGWE@afamosigwe

NO JUDGE HAS THE POWER TO ORDER A LAWYER TO KNEEL IN COURT The Nigerian Bar Association @NigBarAssoc is concerned about reports of an incident that occurred on Monday, 16 March 2026, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, involving Honourable Justice Mohammed Umar and a legal practitioner, Mr. Marshall Abubakar, who appeared as lead defence counsel to Mr. Omoyele Sowore. According to reports, the learned trial judge, in response to counsel raising his voice while addressing the court on the suitability of a hearing date, directed the lawyer to step out of the Bar and kneel down, alongside issuing threats of committal for contempt. The NBA views this development with utmost seriousness, given its implications for the dignity of the legal profession and the sanctity of the courtroom. The courtroom is a temple of justice, governed by law, procedure, and decorum. While judges are vested with the authority to maintain order and discipline in their courts, such authority must be exercised strictly within the bounds of the law and established judicial standards. The power to punish for contempt is well recognised; however, it is circumscribed by defined legal procedures designed to ensure fairness, objectivity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all persons appearing before the court. A judex directing a legal practitioner or indeed any person whatsoever to kneel in court is not a recognised judicial sanction under our laws and does not align with the standards of judicial conduct expected on the Bench. The dignity of the court must be preserved not only in outcome but also in process, and this includes the manner in which judicial authority is exercised. If a judge is of the view that a person has acted in a manner that is contemptuous of the court, the judge MUST follow the accepted way of conducting proceedings for such allegations. We reiterate that legal practitioners bear a corresponding duty to conduct themselves with restraint, professionalism, and respect for the court at all times. While lawyers are entitled, indeed obligated, to advocate firmly and fearlessly on behalf of their clients, such advocacy must always be exercised within the bounds of courtesy and decorum. Disagreements with the court, no matter how strongly felt, must be expressed through proper legal channels and not in a manner that disrupts proceedings or undermines the authority of the court. The legal profession thrives on a delicate but essential balance, one rooted in mutual respect between the Bar and the Bench. This relationship is fundamental to the administration of justice and must be jealously guarded. The NBA calls for calm and restraint on all sides and urges that any grievances arising from courtroom incidents be addressed through appropriate institutional and disciplinary mechanisms. Where necessary, the Association will engage with relevant authorities to ensure that the rule of law, professional standards, and judicial ethics are upheld. Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN President, Nigerian Bar Association
