Written by Ángel Villoldo, the piece "El Choclo" debuted in Buenos Aires in 1903. The Spanish version of the piece has been recorded by multiple orchestras. After English lyrics were added to the piece by Lester Allen and Robert Hill, the song "Kiss Of Fire," as it became known in English language, was first recorded in 1952 by Louis Armstrong Although the song with lyrics has since been recorded by multiple artists, the 1952 cover version by Georgia Gibbs is the only one that hit #1 in the US. Doing so on May 17, 1952.
