Every time I see Punch, my heart always feels a little warmer. Curious about Punch, I looked into past cases of artificial hand-rearing that were carried out at Ichikawa City Zoo and Botanical Garden and put the information together. So far, the zoo has conducted a total of six cases of artificial hand-rearing. Punch is the sixth case. As for using a stuffed toy, the last example was Otome-chan— which makes Punch the second. Who was Otome-chan? Even for humans, new places can be scary. A new job, a new school, a new town— even adults can feel truly lonely. When that happens, I want to remember Punch: clutching his stuffed toy tightly, yet still taking steps toward the troop. Even if things don’t go well, even if he gets scolded or chased away, he still takes another step, and then another. I think this might be the first time in my life I’ve ever rooted this hard for such a tiny baby monkey, lol. 🐒💛
