I grew up with multiple TVs like this and I remember my eyes literally burning after staring at it for like an hour, ain't no way it's better than modern TVs 😭

@ST4RRDUUST @IGN yeah, but in it's defence, most people can't be fucked to build a PC themselves, and also PC sadly still doesn't support CEC and easy standby and resume for games. This is coming from someone who does have a living room PC connected to my tv. This is a plug and play option

The Steam Machine, at $1049, is a bit too expensive to take on the PS5 or the Xbox Series X. But even at that seemingly high price, it’s still one of the cheapest and almost certainly the easiest way to get into PC gaming right now.

@DaemonStatic it's still at the end of the day, just a pc, and there's no gurantee people will buy games on steam or just play their back catalogue instead. it's not their fault hardware prices are insane rn

@Armandfgs I think it will almost exclusively be used for gaming. You’ll have journalists that do the “haha look im writing this article on a steam machine” or the hobbyist “can I make beats on a steam machine” but largely I think people buy the game-company branded gaming pc to play games

From what’s been said it sounds like they’re scared to subsidise the Steam Machine because they’re concerned that they aren’t guaranteed to make that money back by having a closed ecosystem like consoles do. But why? Piracy? I remember Gabe saying that’s a service issue.
