Deployments can get in a rhythm that feels like groundhogs day. Surf and turf Fridays for awhile was a happy reminder that it was Friday, and we're one more week closer to home. Lobster and steak has been a standard for decades. It's silly to try making it controversial.

@NurNochCube @ConsoomerLs There's different geographic and industry preferences for particular coding languages. I know many people who got their first programming job with RoR, however most were hired by VC backed startups. Those who made a career out of coding continued to study while working.

@ConsoomerLs What happened to all those Ruby on Rails bootcamps that were all the rage in the past? Has anyone ever landed a job through those? Also who the fuck even uses ruby? I have never seen a single ruby job listing in my area, not even back then

@daisyldixon Invest in building community. Everyone else is working their in life social network, while demanding you dismantle yours so it's easier to steal from you.

Sorry for the cultural miscommunication here. This is part of bro / blue collar (builder and warrior) culture where we "bust each other's chops." It's a way of pointing out we're putting what divided us behind. We even have a more insulting version called Dark Humor that's used as a way to put trauma behind us my minimizing its impact on the present through jokes.

As a Japanese person does Trump realize how insensitive that joke was? Japan has paid in full and has been a loyal ally for decades.

@usuallypregnant Friends come and go, but if you invested in your family as if you were tilling the soil for harvest, you'd create a beautiful future beyond your imagination.

@mmjukic I've noticed the Japanese in my area organized public street cleanup events. When I go out and shovel snow to clear out neglected areas, westerners either give me a small smile and a thank you or kinda scoff at me as they pass by.

@pmarca If correct, that means the mental health care we've received during our lifetime has been disastrous for society and deleterious for individuals.

@SCHIZO_FREQ How would people feel if it turns out AI was just cover for replacing Americans with outsourcing?

If coding actually does get replaced by AI it's gonna be super ugly The last 30-40 years appear to have been a gradually intensifying "revenge of the nerds" fever dream, and non-techies really did not enjoy watching these people make 250k/yr remotely without degrees I predict low levels of sympathy in the case of mass coder layoffs
taoki@justalexoki

i think its a little sad to watch all these people who took pride in the art of programming slowly die away as they realize bit by bit that its actually over

Culture is comprised of promises we make to future generations in exchange for carrying on our traditions. Too many Americans have sacrificed duty and responsibility to country. They tried redefining culture into enjoying cheap foods, and then act surprised when younger generations don't care about their elders tales of indulgences.

i think new highschool/college hires have always sucked. we just historically hired them anyway out of a sense of obligation to the new generation. and obligation is a virtue that’s atrophied with optimized margins and low trust.

The Checklist General The administrator. Perfect on parchment. Paralyzed in war. They don’t get promoted for winning. They get promoted for never being wrong on paper. Bureaucracy’s finest champion. And the cost is paid by someone else.

I feel for families being separated I do But what about the American families displaced by H-1B and outsourcing? Lost their jobs Lost their homes Moved back in with parents Watched entire teams get replaced No headlines No urgency Just “that’s the market” Why is empathy one-sided? sfchronicle.com/politics/artic…

When I was 22 I wrote other people's college essays for money. African American women in middle America pursuing their second master's degree relied on my writing, so they could spend more time with their students and families instead of online school. ChatGPT took this from me

Title: "Army and Navy" ComposerBraham, Edmund Date: 1911 Lyrics: Hear the drums a-rolling as the columns proudly stride Army men are marching with the Navy by their side Flags are waving high beneath the bright and shining sun For our land and freedom, the battle will be won Army and Navy! Marching on together! Army and Navy! In any kind of weather! United we stand for the red, white, and blue Army and Navy, we’re loyal and true! From the rolling ocean to the fields so wide and green Protecting our great nation, the bravest ever seen Two-step to the music, the bugle sounds the call Army and Navy answering one and all Army and Navy! Marching on together! Army and Navy! In any kind of weather! United we stand for the red, white, and blue Army and Navy, we’re loyal and true! (Let the band swell here – trumpets, drums, cymbals) Army and Navy! (shout) Never say die! Army and Navy! Wave the flag on high!
