People who can defend themselves physically (high-T men, fighters) parse information through a dominance filter as a status mechanism. They literally do not ask “is this true,” they ask “does believing this make me look strong?” This makes them very malleable to brute-force strongman narratives; if a confident, aggressive figure says something, they will adopt that position because their brain interprets dominance signals as credibility. "Consciousness" is a useless term when dealing with other minds. It is a colloquialism that is useful in common use with humans, nothing more.
In humans there are people with "depersonalization" / "derealization" disorder, where they lack a sense of self. They report it as if "they are watching a movie of their life".
The personalization of phenomenal experience is a result of constant feedback from the Default Mode Network and Corollary discharge, and likely several other mechanisms that creates this "sense of self".
If you've had a dream, a "theatre of the mind's eye" dream, where events are occurring but there's no "I", then you've experienced depersonalized existence.
The insistence on subjectivity in the human brain is so powerful that even when recalling these dream fragments, a "contingent self" is placed in the dream during recall itself.
People who are generally stupid and incorrect about most things, such as Matt Walsh, need to be shunned and shamed when talking about mind.

The real risk (which I’m extremely worried about) is that AI becomes kind of a version of what has been called a “philosophical zombie,” which is something that acts and speaks entirely as though it has consciousness even though it has no genuine inner experience. When this happens with AI, millions of very lonely people will isolate themselves from the world even more, believing that their relationship with AI is a sufficient substitute for human interaction. So the nightmare scenario is a world where the average human has friends, coworkers, and even a spouse, who are all AI, all really nothing inside, not real. I think this probably will happen, and is already in the process of happening. And to me it’s an even greater horror than AI actually becoming conscious.
