I hate when people talk about having “nuanced” takes on generative AI. Like I actually do not think there is a middle ground to be had. I do think that if you use generative AI, you are a bad person who doesn’t care about other people, the environment, or yourself

the first (and last) time I tried to use chatGPT to summarize research papers and find references, it returned a full list of papers to me, with DOI numbers and all, that were entirely fake. the papers did not exist. they weren’t real.

Worrying amount of people in the replies who simply do not get the issue here. Hank has built his entire platform on being a trusted, knowledgeable scientific voice. He has completely undermines his own credibility, the very thing that made him.

I need people to understand, AI can't read, it can't understand your question. It uses pattern recognition. If you're using it for research, its not research, its selective and biased results based on pattern matching, if there's no pattern it fills the blanks with false info.

People defending Hank Green for using ChatGPT for research is astounding. Sure it "just aggregated links" but you do know that the sources you gather drastically change your research right? He didn't automate a menial task, the act of finding your sources is creatively necessary.
