In collaboration with David Amans from @UnivLyon1, @iLM_RECHERCHE, Tristan Petit and Louis Godeffroy from the @helmholtz_de, we have published an article titled " The role of the Helmholtz potential on electrocatalytic activity" in the journal @NaturePortfolio Communications.

The electrification of our society is essential to reduce carbon emissions and energy dependence. Achieving this requires efficient and durable electrocatalysts, for example to convert CO2 into useful products or to produce hydrogen from water.

It could help guide the design of more efficient materials for applications such as electrocatalysis, batteries, and energy conversion technologies.

In doing so, it extends the classical Butler–Volmer model used to describe electrochemical reactions and goes beyond the traditional Sabatier principle. This new perspective provides a deeper understanding of electrochemical reactions at solid–liquid interfaces. [4/x]

In this work, we introduce a unified framework that connects these two perspectives. We uncover the fundamental origin of charge separation at the interface, the formation of the electric double layer, and its impact on the local electric potential. [3/x]

But, we still lack a clear understanding of what happens at the boundary between a solid electrode and a liquid electrolyte, where these reactions take place. This interface is complex, as it involves both the physics of the solid material and the chemistry of the liquid. [2/x]

@Paul_Hatte @Lundi_Dimanche Il vous manques quelques notions de thermodynamique. Même pour produire de l électricité il faut un échappatoire à la chaleur (Toure de refroidissement, rivière…). En été cela ferait monter la température de Paris et/ou de la Seine. Ce qui n’est pas viable malheureusement.

🥁 Tenez-vous bien amis fans des bunkers : je propose que Paris bunkerise ses 5000m2 de data centers dans les 250 abris inoccupés, sous les bâtiments administratifs, notamment l’Hôtel de Ville. Les études montrent que cela permettrait de chauffer TOUT Paris gratuitement.

J’ai visité le bunker de l’Hôtel de Ville de Paris, devenu inexploitable et qui était capable d’accueillir des centaines d’agents. 🇫🇷 Je ferai cet après-midi une proposition audacieuse le concernant…

@skdh Well my job ends up mostly writing proposals, finding money, trying to negociate low prices for my equipment and hopefully hire someone. Sooooo AI can have it.
I’ll just keep the fun part of understanding the problems and if AI can help me with that, that’s already a good buddy!

Extremely weird how many scientists think that there is something super special about their discipline that AI can't learn. Research is a job like any other job. We're not there yet but of course AI will learn to do it.

AI cannot in principle do science but it can be used as a tool to help process data. AI is not autonomous, & does not come up with its own problems to solve. That’s so obvious if you don’t understand you need to do some philosophy.
