The Government is hellbent on curbing our right to jury trials — despite having no public mandate. If @Keir_Starmer won’t listen to his own MPs and legal allies, perhaps he should heed his former mentor, Geoffrey Robertson KC, who has called the plan a betrayal of Labour values and a threat to British freedoms. FSU research shows that those charged with speech-related offences are almost twice as likely to be acquitted in a Crown Court with a jury as in a magistrates’ court without one. Why would they release a statement days after the incident claiming that a young woman was attacked by four men and ask for any potential witnesses to come forward, and when asked for more information they claim investigations are ongoing and they don't know the ethnicity of the perpetrators, and then today after increasing pressure from the public they claim no evidence of migrants involved and that the attack didn't happen, well why state that no migrants were involved if they claim that the attack didn't occur. This smells like Southport again I will put money on they have a gag order on the victim and family now too. if a woman said she was raped.. and then police saying no evidence of rape, she would be held arrested for false allegations and then in court..... whole thing stinks!
