Nigerian Navy Unveils Special Operations Command (NNSOC) to Boost Internal Security. During the Nigerian Navy’s 69th Anniversary Ceremonial Sunset Dinner on June 1, 2025, the Navy officially unveiled the Nigerian Navy Special Operations Command (NNSOC), a centralized command structure for rapid deployment and elite ground operations in support of Nigeria’s internal security operations. With immediate effect, the NNSOC will establish its headquarters in Benue State, alongside supporting bases and training facilities in Enugu, Lake Chad, Shagunu (Niger State), and Lokoja (Kogi State). These locations will host marine schools, forward operating bases, and air assault assets dedicated to rapid response and land warfare, marking a significant expansion of the Navy’s role beyond traditional maritime operations. The creation of NNSOC reflects a major strategic shift under the Navy’s force restructuring initiative, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s evolving internal security challenges with speed, precision, and specialized capabilities.
