Perhaps unsurprisingly, the people most excited to have the Bible — well, *a* Bible, more on that in a moment — back in schools are the ones least familiar with it. You see, there's no way to get Bibles in school without flagrantly violating the Constitution. No, not because of the "separation of Church and State." That's neither in the Constitution nor in American law. It was in a letter sent by Jefferson to a Connecticut Baptist association, and later cited in court decisions. Great letter, wise sentiment from Jefferson, but not legally binding, and certainly not Constitutional. No, understanding the reason this flagrantly violates the Constitution requires...a little knowledge of religion! Let me explain:

The rulings into the conduct of the two Cheltenham birth centre midwives who have been struck off have been published. This is what stands out aside from what has already been reported in the press.🧵 1/17

Kevin Maguire says "Jeremy Clarkson is defending his own tax dodge" & points out figures like Rothermere (the Daily Mail owner), Paul Dacre (the Mail Group editor in chief) & James Dyson have got lots of lands because they thought it would allow them to avoid tax #GMB

Please read this. It's literally been 8 years in the writing. The first wave of tech disruption of democracy 2016-2024 is over. What starts now is something much, much worse: the age of information chaos. 1/ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Talking about the UK & Scotland's role in slavery doesn't make you anti-British or anti-Scottish. We should teach children our history, the good, bad & ugly. And yes, that also means talking about reparations, not trying to shut down the conversation about reparatory justice.

After completing my run this morning, feeling already depleted because of my bad time, I opened my phone to this. I can handle most things, but sometimes it adds to an already heavy load you are carrying.

We are very Lucky to live in a Country with such a temperate climate and it allows us to largely ignore our contribution to climate change but what do we think happens when people need to leave their homelands because they can no longer support life? Do we honestly think we just carry on as normal?

No is a complete sentence, and this no is categoric. Our advice to resident doctors is crystal clear.👇🏼 If not urgent, refer PA to their supervising consultant. If urgent, assess the patient yourself and rely on your own clinical judgement, not a PAs. bma.org.uk/news-and-opini…

Hearing that Drs are being told at induction there is an expectation to prescribe & order ionising radiation for PAs With the GMC guidelines of "kindness" being the justification Just a reminder for anyone who comes up against this attitude 👇 forms.office.com/pages/response…

The scenes in Rotherham aren’t a protest, they aren’t even a far right riot, they are an ongoing attempt to murder the men, women & children inside by burning them alive. The stench of these days will hang around those who incited and justified it for the rest of their lives.

Zarah Sultana, "I was born and raised in Birmingham.. The images from this city.. Family WhatsApp group telling each other to stay in.. My sisters wondering if they should go into work.. Friends saying they're going to work from home" "This isn't a way to be living, where you're fearful to walk outside in your community because you fear for your life" Krishnan Guru-Murthy, "We have to talk about where this came from" ZS, "This is the culmination of decades of front pages that have demonised and scapegoated muslims, refugees and migrants. This is the product of rhetoric we see coming from the highest offices in the country" "Our former Home Secretary Suella Braverman said we have an invasion of migrants.. She also said the Islamists and extremists and anti semites are in charge.. The dehumanisation has been happening for decades" "Most recently Nigel Farage, the language he has been using that Muslims don't share the values of British people. This is where it leads to"

Just unbelievable how badly @zarahsultana is treated here… They ask her questions, cut her off while she’s addressing those questions then accuse her of not answering the very questions they interrupted the answers to… Upon which they sneer and cackle at her with embarrassing conceit. Astonishing. 1. Have some manners. She is your guest. 2. Don’t all speak over her at once and then condemn her for not being able to answer you. 3. Don’t dismiss everything a woman of colour says when she tries to very politely tell you hard truths. That is called bullying. 4. Don’t arrogantly tell her you were right on language your guest correctly identifies as complicit in aggravating and stoking tensions. 5. We have seen endless pictures, videos and anecdotes of Muslims getting attacked up and down the country by right wing thugs… what on earth possesses you to think its appropriate to interrogate and gaslight your guest into believing none of that happened? We’ve ALL seen it! Even non Muslims like myself are traumatised by it so I can’t imagine how she feels. Don’t make your ignorance and lack of research her problem. Absolutely shocking, @edballs and @kategarraway
