I hope that the ceasefire holds. Shame on those who were cheerleading the attacks on either side. I care more about Iranian civilians for obvious reasons, but all lives matter, civilians are innocent.

The war was also an operational failure since it failed to suppress Iranian missile fire and it’s unclear if even a single missile base was durably taken offline despite massive expenditures of finite U.S. standoff munitions. During the brief exchange of fire in the days before the MOU the Iranians showed they could still hit high-value targets in Bahrain and Israel. If the war had been so tactically successful the negotiations would not have looked like this.

This war will be taught at War Colleges (assuming they still exist) and strategic studies programs for years to come as *the* case study in how operational successes do not lead to strategic victory.

With respect, Masih, many of us saw this coming and warned about allying your cause with men like Trump and Netanyahu. This is devastating for the people of Iran, and now that the regime has been legitimized even further by the US, it’ll become that much harder for women like Parastoo. The regime you’re criticizing for calling the US The Great Satan is stronger than ever before now because The Great Satan decided that was the best course of action. This was entirely predictable and with precedent (ask the women of Afghanistan).

Given that the interests of most of the planet is in ending this war and restoring maritime transit stability in the region this could be a good pivot point for an arms embargo and sanctions on Israel.

It was Israel that assassinated Iran's leader (and top leadership) on the first day of the war. Certainly Trump was aware that that was in the works, but it was an Israeli operation, as flaunting international law and the UN Charter is seemingly not an issue for the Netanyahu government. (The US is prohibited by law in assassinating foreign leaders.) Pezeshkian is holding a document that sets terms for ending the war permanently. Not a "complete and unconditional surrender".

Surreal to see Pezeshkian hold up a copy of the MOU with the signature of President Trump, whose operation killed #Iran's regime's supreme leader Ali Khamenei and injured Mojtaba Khamenei, both pictured in the background. Ali Khamenei once said in 2019, "I believe that Trump is not worthy of any message exchange, and I do not have and will never have any answer for him."
