I’m curious: How is this pattern handled in different programming languages?
I.e. you have a sequence of operations that can each fail. If one fails you can’t continue with the next. If not all succeed you have to undo any operations up until the point of failure.
Here’s how I usually do it in languages with goto, like C:
int err
if (err = do1())
return err
if (err = do2())
goto err2
if (err = do3())
goto err3
return 0
err3:
undo2()
err2:
undo1()
return err

@chinmay185 Have to admit this was slightly anti-climatic for me. 😅
I was arriving at same solution in my head but having read your earlier posts, I was certain that there is some simpler solution than migrating the services. Good post nonetheless 😁

I write such stories on software engineering.
There's no specific frequency, as I don't make up these.

Story time. You are a tech lead who's tasked to backup 1.5TB (yes, not a typo, a terabyte) of data DAILY to S3. You're not really sure about any other background about this requirement, so you start asking some questions: 1. Where's the data produced from and stored currently?

Officially an engineer with a degree. 🙏
I was going to drop out of college in my pre-final year because nothing made sense, the faculty weren’t supportive, the administration didn’t help with anything, 90% of the students around did not have any ambition or plans for their future.
I have never been the brightest academically either so it seemed like a win-win situation. I also found a really good work opportunity off campus but wasn’t allowed to join because my college wanted to take full credit for it. Eventually it just did not work out and I felt like this degree was just a big burden.
Thanks to my parents and some really good friends who convinced me to finish just another year and be done with it for once and for all, I’m a graduate. 🫡
To anyone who’s thinking about dropping out, been there, don’t do it. It’s going to feel like a hell hole but get that one document anyhow so you at least have a back up, and one good story to tell.
Also, thank you @IshikaKesarwan4 for tagging along and not letting me fall. ❤️

@championswimmer @i_m_Pania @CleverTap Great thread. Although, having led the locations team at blinkit, you mostly never parse lat/long from the cx device as is. Coordinates are almost always converted to a hex grid or some sort of cell on which the downstream services process their response
