Chapter 5 of Oasis by KC (yours truly) now available on Spindle! This is my first update for Pharos since the departure of my co-writer, and I feel like I've regained my footing. Link below! Excerpt: Hahn had known, of course, that this would come. It always came eventually – the black snake writhing in his gut was as familiar as the salt of thoralite – but this time he wouldn’t be able to haggle for a bit of dust to cut the edge. There was dread in him now, but also something else – relief. This was truly the pivotal moment, when the Wheel turned in a new direction. All of his comforts, such as they had been, were gone now. And there was no going back, he knew. He felt it in his bones; the simple life he’d been building in the Sprawl with his family, with his kin, was gone forever. Strangely, he didn’t mourn it. He could hear others in the distance. Spread out. He tried to focus on the scuffles and the sounds, but his brain remained stubbornly clouded by… sedation, perhaps, or withdrawal, or both. His ears picked up the noises but his mind seemed unable or unwilling to interpret them. And he really, really needed to take a piss.

If you read the proposal carefully, it’s many searches packaged into one. If we consider the fully visible case, we already have two; scalar and pseudoscalar. Adding the invisible contribution adds even more possibilities.” “…you’re not planning to tackle them all in your thesis, are you?” “No, of course not. You know I also did some phenomenological 2HDM studies with Professor Shao. It’s natural to want to extend them to experimental searches for my PhD. It’s just that, since I don’t have much experience there, I don’t want to narrow it down just yet..."

[New chapter by yours truly! Voting open to decide Ch5! Link in comments] Once in a while I dream I’m a June beetle, and life is much simpler. A June beetle acts according to its nature and doesn’t wonder much about that. It eats and reproduces and tries to live peaceably. But I admit, you can’t write a ground-breaking novel about eating and reproducing and living peaceably; at least not one for humans. That’s why I’m standing on this porch outside of an unfamiliar duplex, the chilly night air making my arm hairs prickle beneath the layers of clothes. The door on the left side of the duplex sports a tie-dyed peace symbol hanging by a nail and a large Calypso sign overhead. The door on the right side has nothing, but on the windowsill next to it there’s an old beer can with a miniature American flag on a stick poking out of it like a red-white-and-blue daisy. Behind the door on the right, I hear a deep groaning from inside.

[New Chapter by A.A.! Link in comments] Aize was seeing sparks for a few seconds upon drowsily opening his eyes the next morning. Small wonder, considering how long he had spent staring at bolt after bolt of lightning yesterday. Though he had reached a point where a successful cast of Thunderbolt Strike was assured, he had yet to manage the performance he envisioned. That was troubling, especially considering how he was firing the spell at less than half strength in order to keep his mana supply high. Fixing this issue was one item in his plan for the day. The constraints of one attempt at full power every hour and being back home before dinner meant a maximum of nine, but that had yet to account for the other item on his list. How long would that take? Aize sighed; it was not a question he could answer by merely thinking about it. Best for him to simply go there and try.

With her it seemed that he must, because he always felt tortured in her presence. “You’re angry, and you have every right to hate me for what I’ve done.” She lifted her hand in a helpless gesture before letting it fall back to her side. “But if our situations were reversed, you would have done the same thing.” “Never, Amber. I would have never kept you from our son.” “You’re so certain,” she said, “so quick to judge. But then you never considered my position in your life. You just expected me to conform.” “I expected you to trust me.”
