The Dangerous Double Standards Of Plateau Leaders Fueling Plateau’s Endless Bloodshed
By: Zagazola Makama
The latest “vote of no confidence” issued by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) against the Sector 4 Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, is not surprising. What is surprising is how some individuals continue to openly fuel violence, threaten law and order, intimidate security agencies and still attempt to posture as defenders of peace.
Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri and his associates cannot continue to play both arsonist and firefighter at the same time.
Mr. Mwantiri’s latest “vote of no confidence” against Sector 4 Commander, Col. Victor Asuquo, and other officers did not emerge in a vacuum. It followed weeks of escalating reprisals, counter-attacks, cattle rustling, killings and communal mobilisation across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa and Mangu LGAs.
For weeks now, the same voices accusing security agencies of failure have also been the loudest promoters of dangerous rhetoric that has continue to ignite mass violence across Plateau State.
Mr. Mwantiri himself publicly declared that his group would “No longer Guarantee Peace and Security in the Plateau” If Fulani cattle were seen grazing in certain communities. He further warned security agencies not to arrest anybody “under the guise” of attacks against Fulani. That was not a peace statement. That was a threat and a declaration of war.
And sadly, events that followed appeared to mirror exactly the atmosphere he helped create.
Since those statements, there have been repeated reports of targeted killings, cattle rustling, attacks on herders and assaults on Fulani settlements across Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Bassa.

Earlier today at about 2:31pm along Uturu Road near Abia State University (ABSU), I experienced one of the most traumatizing moments of my life.
I boarded a mini bus to get an item back to my lodge when some policemen without name tags stopped our vehicle at a checkpoint.
They ordered me to step down, which I peacefully did. Immediately, they collected another passenger’s phone and began interrogating him aggressively about what he does for a living.
Moments later, one of them turned to me and asked why I was using 3 phones. I calmly explained to them that I am a student and that the phones were bought with my hard-earned money. Instead of listening, they dragged me, my brother, and another passenger into a nearby bush and started harassing us for absolutely no reason.
Before we knew what was happening, more officers joined them and they began beating us mercilessly like criminals, even though we were just students who came to ABSU to study and build our future.
My brother and I sustained serious injuries during the assault. My ear is currently blocked, I can barely hear properly, and it has been bleeding because of the torture we faced in the hands of these officers...my phone screen also got broken.
The most painful part was the constant threats they made. They said they could shoot us and nothing would happen. They also said they could make sure we never graduate from school. Imagine hearing such terrifying words from the same people meant to protect citizens.
My only “crime” was owning 3 phones.
ABSU students are no longer feeling safe. Police harassment, intimidation, and extortion around Uturu are becoming unbearable. Students are living in fear every day. We came here for education, not to be brutalized and treated like criminals for no reason💔. @PoliceNG

I will never support the LAWFARE being waged against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. @elrufai
Let the courts uphold the rule of law by granting him bail and ensuring he receives a fair trial. Bail is a constitutional right not a tool for punishment or intimidation.
Using bail as a means of caging Nigerians is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable. It is a practice we must all reject, regardless of who is involved.

I just want to imagine the reaction that would follow if, tomorrow, our northern institutions woke up and announced that any woman in a miniskirt, dressed half-naked, or without a hijab would not be allowed to write JAMB, WAEC, or NECO.
The national meltdown it would spark would be crazy.
But Muslim women in the South are not allowed to write JAMB because they are wearing the hijab, and these hypocrites are silent about it.

Hello Nigerian Police, it’s Wednesday already.
We were told these four officers were on their way to Abuja yesterday to face the IGP… but since then, nothing. No update, no statement, just silence.
This can’t be another case that quietly disappears under the rug. Too many people are paying attention now. Nigerians are watching this closely and we deserve clear, public updates.
This shouldn’t end in handshakes and quiet dismissals behind closed doors. The same way those innocent boys were publicly traumatised, there must be visible accountability.
We’re still waiting. Don’t let this fade away.

FRSC, VIO or Police who really has the Right to Check Driver’s Licence?
Stop Guessing let’s settle it today.
Everyday on major roads and cities one officer stops you. Tomorrow another one stops you.
Next tomorrow, one new uniform you’ve never seen before appears and says: “Show me your driver’s licence!”
Relax. Let me break it down for you
Not everybody wearing uniform has the power to check your driver’s licence.
The law is clear.
The powers are different.
Let’s settle this matter once and for all.
🥢 FRSC (Federal Road Safety Corps)
These ones have full legal power to check:
✔ Driver’s licence
✔ Vehicle documents
✔ Safety compliance
✔ Number plates
✔ Roadworthiness
✔ Speed violations
They enforce federal traffic laws. They can stop you, inspect your papers, and issue fines.
What they CANNOT do:
✔️They cannot impound your vehicle for personal reasons
✔️They cannot demand bribe
✔️They cannot forcefully seize your keys
✔️They cannot arrest you for non-criminal matters
Their job is road safety not harassment.
🥢 VIO (Vehicle Inspection Office)
These ones focus on the car itself, not you. Their job is mechanical inspection:
✔ Roadworthiness
✔ Vehicle condition
✔ Emissions
✔ Testing vehicles before issuing roadworthiness certificates
They CAN check vehicle documents related to the car's health BUT they cannot stop you on federal highways.
Their power is mostly within states and here’s the part most people don’t know, they do NOT have legal authority to demand your driver’s licence on public roads.
Driver’s licence is not their jurisdiction.
What they CANNOT do:
✔️They cannot chase your vehicle
✔️They cannot stand on highways checking licences
✔️They cannot demand unrelated documents
✔️They cannot threaten arrest
They are inspectors not law enforcement.
🥢 NIGERIA POLICE FORCE
Police can legally:
✔ Request driver’s licence
✔ Check your identity
✔ Verify vehicle ownership
✔ Investigate stolen vehicles
✔ Enforce criminal offences on the road
Because driver’s licence is a means of identification, and police handle law enforcement generally.
But what they CANNOT do:
✔️ They cannot impose traffic fines
✔️ They cannot ask for money
✔️ They cannot seize your phone because of traffic stop
✔️ They cannot force you out of the car without cause
✔️They cannot impound your vehicle except for criminal suspicion
Their job is security not roadside extortion.
The Simple Summary (Save This):
🥢 FRSC → CAN check driver’s licence
🥢 Police → CAN check driver’s licence
🥢 VIO → CANNOT check driver’s licence
Different uniforms.
Different powers.
Different laws.
Stop allowing everyone on the road to intimidate you.
Know your rights.
Know their limits.
Know the law.
Arm yourself with knowledge,
not panic.
