Furthermore, if MOPE makes a calculation error that results in the compromise of a 4% profit margin, wouldn’t that constitute a breach of Clause 18.2 of the contract?

@kanchana_wij @anuradisanayake @kanchana_wij can you clarify below; 1. Pump price for fuel, under the current arrangement, determined solely by the pricing formula. For LIOC & other private distributors using this formula to set prices, is the process self-regulated, or is it governed and overseen by MOPE?

There are false statements and posts circulating on social media platforms from the false and misleading statements made by President @anuradisanayake and the CPC Chairman, that the previous government has entered into agreements with fuel companies to compensate for losses they make arising from CPC fuel pricing. There’s no such agreement or clause in any agreement that the Government or CPC has to pay any compensation or penalty to any fuel company for losses the individual companies make on the revision of prices related to CPC. CPC fuel prices are decided and announced taking into account the costs related to CPC products and not according to the cost, losses or requests made by other fuel companies. Only If and when the Government approves and announces a direct fuel subsidy to the consumers, the companies including CPC has to be compensated by the General Treasury to the amount of the subsidy extended. I extend an invitation to any member of the government to come for an open debate on the false statements and accusations related to the power and energy sectors.

@dhananath CEB’s statement highlights AKD’s mandate which primarily from nationalistic voters who prioritize state control & protecting national assets. This creates a challenge in pursuing market-driven modernization, as it conflicts with voter expectations rooted in nationalistic values.

🇱🇰🪫If true, reversing energy sector reforms is bad news for consumers & businesses. It could mean higher costs for all. The previous law wasn’t perfect, but rolling back reforms has serious downsides. Solar prices are dropping, and this will only delay benefits for consumers⚡️1
