I am sorry, but if you can’t play in at least 80% of the games, you probably don’t deserve to win regular season awards. Only five NBA MVPs have gone to a player who played under 65 games. Malone won in a 50-game strike season. LeBron during a 66-game strike season. Giannis during 72-game COVID season. Cousy during a 72-game season. In NBA history, only Bill Walton would have been impacted by the 65-game rule.

The 65-game rule didn’t increase attendance like it was designed. Instead, it’s taken away deserved honors from some of the best players in the league.

Wilt averaged 30 points and 28 rebounds head-to-head against the guy many consider the NBA’s ultimate defender. sports-reference.com/stathead/tiny/…
WF Maher@gogogo78

@thomloverro Loved Wilt when I was a kid and he’s obviously in the GOAT discussion. His stats are still eye-popping. But Russell, at the same position, played well head-to-head against Wilt and won more rings at about the same time…hmmm

Bench guys don’t usually get the jersey-in-the-rafters treatment. But Dell Curry has meant a lot more than that to the Charlotte Hornets. Ceremony tonight in the ORL-CHA gave on NBA TV. nba.com/news/dell-curr…

@OleTimeHardball I’d slide the PED users down 25 spots each. The top 9 are how I’d pick ‘em, so of course I concur 💯 there.

@NBACobwebs Nothing says "fun at the Finals" like toting some milk cartons and eggs (hard-boiled, soft or raw) to throw at the visitors bench. At least hockey gets creative with the octopuses.

March 18, 1960: A fistfight between the Warriors' Wilt Chamberlain and Boston's Tommy Heinsohn during Game 2 of the East Finals. The fight was eventually broken up by Philadelphia police. The game was delayed several times to clear the floor of milk cartons, eggs, and other items thrown toward the Celtics bench.

The Confessions of Al McGuire (Feature Film)
39 wins in a row over two years, 27-0 on the season. Ranked #2 in the country, with a potential #1 UCLA matchup a few games away for the national title. It was 1971, and Marquette was loaded. The Warriors easily dispatched Miami (OH) University 62-47 in the first round; up next was #10 Ohio State. What happened on this day, 1971, still haunts the Marquette faithful. Was it an NCAA conspiracy? Was Marquette overconfident and overlooking the Buckeyes? Plenty of opinions. Marquette would fall 60-59, and their dreams of a potential Final Four or NCAA title evaporated in Athens, Georgia. A day that saw Dean Meminger foul out, something that had never happened EVER in any game Meminger played in....high school, college, or pro. The backdrop is important. The season prior, Al McGuire turned down a bid to the NCAA tournament because he was displeased with the region the team was sent to. That had never been done before....it would never be done again as the NCAA changed their rules to force schools to accept an NCAA bid if offered. McGuire's Warriors were sent to Texas in the Midwest Regional, but should have been sent to Dayton, Ohio in the Mideast Regional. Notre Dame was given the Mideast, despite Marquette ranking higher than Notre Dame. McGuire wanted to play Kentucky again in the bracket, but word on the street was that Adolph Rupp helped to push MU to a different region. McGuire said NO and opted for the NIT. That move did not sit well with the NCAA brass and brings us to this day in history, 1971. #2 Marquette vs #10 Ohio State in Athens, Georgia. Marquette jumped all over OSU to start the game and led by as many as 13 points, but it didn't last long. By halftime, the game was a slim lead for the Warriors at 31-27. In the second half, Marquette stayed in control but was unable to knock the Buckeyes out. With Marquette up 55-50, Meminger was called for his 5th foul. A huge blow to MU, as he was the team leader. He scored only 11 points (averaged 21ppg) in the contest and admitted after the game he was flat, and the foul trouble had taken him out of his normal performance. Marquette held on for dear life the next few minutes until OSU's 7-foot center, Luke Witte, put them up 58-57 with a layup with 1:09 to play. With the Warriors trailing by one, they had three opportunities to take the lead, all on the fingertips of Jim Chones. His first attempt at :45 remaining hit off the rim. After a timeout, he would have another short range jumper, again off the rim and again with :24 left, the third shot would not fall. Chones said after the game he had never tightened up like that, and potentially could have driven to the basket on several of the shots, but settled for the jump shot. Incredibly, Marquette still had a chance to win with :07 to play. After MU's last timeout and a play drawn up to win the game, Al's son, Allie, inbounded the ball and was immediately whistled. The refs ruled he had stepped on the inbounds line, resulting in a turnover. OSU would be fouled, hit two free throws, and MU made a last-second basket for the final score. The 39-game winning streak and arguably one of McGuire's best teams ever came to an end. Was the NCAA delivering payback? Some think so. “We were, by far, a better team and should have won by 10 or more points. The refs were ignoring grabbing and holding, especially on Bob Lackey and Jimmy Chones, and Gary Brell was neutralized in the first half by phantom calls. Yes, the NCAA was getting back at Al and Marquette for his refusal to go to Texas the year before and opting for the NIT. They got their revenge.... and we were denied a trip to the Final Four. We should have had the opportunity to play for the title,” an emotional Hugh McMahon said after the game. McMahon would finish with 6 points. McGuire took a different stance. "They just beat us. They tightened up underneath and locked us out, so we couldn't get layups. We won some we should have lost, but we try hard to be men about losing. They were well prepared. They did their thing......We won 39 in a row, and we won some we shouldn’t have won,” shrugged Al. We had a nice run at it this year, and we hope to be back.” One thing is for sure, the loss of Meminger was huge, as MU was in control of the game heading into the final minutes of the contest. With him fouling out, MU was leaderless. "When Dean fouled out, we were lost. Dean was our leader." - Jim Chones Marquette would take on Kentucky in the consolation game a few days later and annihilated the Wildcats 91-74. youtu.be/bZK_n9WhWSE?si…

@WallStreetApes The amount of mayo I eat is the equivalent of a fly hitting a windshield. That white, semi-gelatinous glop just doesn’t do a lot for me. In place of it, I usually use a few drops of Italian salad dressing on things such as deli sandwiches.

Shocking ingredients inside American mayonnaise “You think you're eating a traditional egg condiment, but factories are actually pumping Hellman's full of cheap, highly inflammatory soybean oil Worse, to stop this unnatural mixture from separating on the shelf, they inject it with calcium disodium EDTA. This is a synthetic laboratory chemical used in medicine to trap heavy metals yet food corporations are legally feeding it to your family” I verified and it’s all true - Soybean oil as the main ingredient - Calcium disodium EDTA is an ingredient listed as “used to protect quality” - Calcium disodium EDTA is used medically to treat heavy metal poisoning as higher doses (but it’s in our mayonnaise….)

McGuire didn't say a word, waiting until a metal, motorized garage-type door was closed -- it separated the podium room from the arena noise. Once the slow, grinding motor stopped, he went OFF. With only a notebook & pen, I barely could scribble fast enough. Epic rant.
The Confessions of Al McGuire (Feature Film)@almcguireconfes

On today’s date in 1977, Al McGuire had his famous media outburst after Marquette edged Kansas State by 1 point in the 1977 NCAA Tournament. Marquette was fortunate to win 67-66, including a controversial call late in the game that went Marquette’s way. With :10 to play and Marquette up two point, Darryl Winston tipped the ball in to tie while being fouled by Bo Ellis. It was waived off. The rules back then required the player to have “full possession” when fouled for the tip-in to count. The unsung hero of the game was the “Cloud Piercer”, Jim Dudley. Marquette trailed by 14 points when Dudley came off the bench with a three point play, other baskets and key rebounds. His energy led the Warriors comeback. Below in the video is a partial excerpt of AL’s post game presser, which he addressed the technical called on him. A more complete accounting is here in text "I have a tremendous hang-up on the technical," explained Al to the assembled press. “Either I'm sicko or someone else is sicko in this thing. Now, I was yelling that the (Kansas State) team was startin' to tighten up. I put my hand on my neck and said that they're tightening up and the ref blows a technical on me. That's a competent official. He wouldn't be here if he wasn't competent. And someone brainwashed him. And they've been brainwashed before. I'm talking about the subconscious of the official is being reached, in some smoke-filled room. Somewhere. They're prepping them. I've got to come up here with the NCAA pulling this crap? And that's what it is. That's what happens when you come to the NCAA and that's one reason why I'm never going to coach in the NCAA again. It's been a zoo. I've been through this crap too many times in the NCAA. I've only got one technical this year and I don't coach any differently here than in any other game. I coach exactly the same no matter where the hell I am, and every time I come to the NCAA they end up calling technicals on me. Now it's absolutely wrong. And I'm not a crybaby. I've been quiet for the last ten years. Now either they're taking these officials and brainwashing them before they have my game.... What the hell's going on?! Guy calls a technical foul on me when I'm talking to the team? And the only way a guy can do it is because subconsciously, he's been told. The only way he can do that is if he's been brainwashed to watch out for me. And then he won't come over and talk to me. All I wanted to tell the guy is, 'Hey, I'm talking to the guys, not you.' Now there's too much smoke in back rooms or too much whispering or too much something going on. There's too many smoke-filled rooms or something where all these things are decided. To call a technical foul at that time of the game is a mortal sin! And it's wrong. Now it doesn't make any difference to me. I'm on my way. But I don't want to blow it for these guys (the players). I would not say a word to you guys, if we would have lost. There's no way I could say a word. So, peace. I'm sorry and so on, but I'm glad I got it off my chest. But it's about time for some people to realize that I'm not a bum in a bowery, or a wino in a hallway, or a pimp on a corner. I know my profession, I know it well, and I've worked it hard. All my life I've worked it hard."

A puny 62-game schedule would lock in all lifetime stats leaders forever. How many seasons would someone have to play to chase LeBron in points, Wilt in rebounds, Stockton in assists, etc.?
