Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way. He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.

Arne Slot was appointed to lead the rebuild at Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp’s departure and like any major transition, there was a natural nervousness within the fanbase. Klopp’s public backing and that moment at Anfield helped ease the mood and signalled the beginning of a new era. What nobody really expected was just how quickly it would turn. Liverpool winning the Premier League title in Slot’s first season changed the entire perception of the project overnight. In reality, that first season was always likely to be viewed internally as an introduction to the league, a chance for Slot to settle, understand the squad and establish his methods before the real structural work began. The second season on paper, was supposed to be where things escalated. New signings, squad evolution and some difficult decisions on long-term personnel. But, it also came with complications that weren’t fully anticipated, including disruption from key players and the emotional weight of difficult circumstances off the pitch. In the end it left the club with a far more realistic target of simply securing Champions League qualification rather than competing on all fronts as seen many times before. That shift naturally created frustration and noise from outside and rightly so. There was a belief within the hierarchy that the shock title in the first season would buy patience and trust during the more difficult phases of the rebuild. Whether the fanbase fully accepted that wasn’t going to cross the minds of the people in charge. Now heading into the third season, the pattern is becoming clearer. Senior players and leaders are moving on (again), targets are becoming more defined, and the scale of the rebuild is once again obvious. This is where the next phase begins, shaping a squad that reflects the long-term vision rather than the remnants of the Klopp era. Now, the expectation internally is not perfection but, progression. A trophy and a league challenge is a target but, the real focus is stability, structure and building towards sustained competitiveness again. The biggest task of all now sits with Arne Slot himself. Finding a way to push through the noise, the scrutiny and the growing toxicity from sections of the fanbase but most importantly giving supporters something to genuinely believe in and get excited about again. Arne Slot was brought in to guide Liverpool through a rebuild process, the questions are there if he is the right man to continue on this journey hence his contract talks being on hold but, there’s definitely a sense of sympathy from above regarding last season. The work is still ongoing, the road is long, but everyone knows what the destination is, we just don’t know the ETA.

🥇| @JamesPearceLFC and @greggevans40: The club’s hierarchy believes that Arne Slot handled a difficult situation [following Salah's interview in December] with dignity as he reintegrated Salah following his time away at the AFCON. However, friction between the pair remained.

Former Netherlands international Jan Everse, who managed Slot at PEC Zwolle: “The worst thing that can happen is that they fire him. But they would be very stupid. “Slot came in and he became champion. Everybody was happy. And now one player is not satisfied because he’s played bad. “You will now see them competing for the title again.”

Arne Slot on Ollie Watkins’ comments after the Aston Villa game: “I think he said that we were playing with a high-line. So that means we play a certain style of football that must be then quite offensive because if you go to a low-block that is probably a defensive style of play but that’s not something to be proud of to have playing with a high-line. He adds to that he thought that could give him a lot of chances and I already said that we conceded far too many goals and one of the reasons is what Ollie Watkins said when we hold a high-line it is not always been safe enough, it is not always been the way of us to defend the other team to get a chance or a goal. These are things that I didn’t hear for the first time and I saw these things as well. As I said, we want to find the right balance in the style of football I would like us to play and the fans would like us to play. That’s obviously and clearly not going into a low-block for 90 mins of the game but it is definitely not positive that such a good striker says after a game that he fancied that game because he felt it could be a game he could get a lot of chances. That’s what I mean we have to evolve and not completely change because of where the league has got to. Take that into account but definitely also keep the same brand and style of play.”

I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.

🚨 Arne Slot on 20 defeats this season: “For sure for a top team like us it's far too many losses and dropped points”. “That hugely has to do with the way we concede is far too easy in general”.
