ಕನ್ನಡ

A daring theft in Nagavara, Bangalore where 4 guys looted my friends business just after midnight.
@BlrCityPolice the Govindpura police station still hasn't taken an official complaint, what do they have to do to file a Complaint?
English

@PiGovindpura @DcpEastBcp @BlrCityPolice Namaskara Sir, I've sent you a DM but no response till now. please confirm how to get in touch with you ?
English

@PiGovindpura @BlrCityPolice Good Afternoon Sirs, please message on DM, Will share concerned person number by message to you privately
English

@AskEnvici Yup, had a similar experience with AU, had raised complaints twice and got a call from some scammer based in Kolkata both the times.
English

@BalajiRavi23 And they haven't even bothered to take action on this. What a disgusting bank it is man, wonder how many got scammed like this due to inaction or worse from AU Bank
English

@san1suresh It is man. It's super sus how AU bank has allowed this to happen
English

So here the delivery has to be made to an address, to an account, to a person. If it's a phone, it can be traced. If it's a large item it can be tracked on cctv. There are multiple avenues to track because it is Swiggy.
I don't know why you feel so helpless, but it going thru Swiggy gives multiple data points than a bank transfer and run.
Swiggy can provide a lot of information to track and trace, hopefully they do.
English

@AskEnvici Emptying a 200k Swiggy balance takes just 60-90 seconds.
Add the iPhone 17 Pro + 17 combo to cart and checkout—done.
Delivery arrives in 5-10 minutes.
This works even on the road, though Flipkart recently updated their policy to prohibit deliveries in cars or on roads.

So, I'll write in detail how sophisticated the scam was yesterday, but just to get the facts right, this is what happened.
1) A relative got an email from a bank. This was bank.co instead of bank.in, so it looks very believable. (Bank will be revealed soon)
2) They had requested to close a card a few days back and the mail addresses that and wanted some physical verification.
3) While they covered up the details of the card being closed, the scammers got a view of an Infinia Add-on card in the wallet and within seconds multiple OTPs started coming on the phone
4) While they did cut the call immediately, one OTP was used and money was transferred to Swiggy
5) How they captured the OTP from a video call is still a mystery
HDFC and Swiggy were notified asap, card was blocked and transaction reported in 3 mins of the transaction.
Now, I am thankful the money was transferred to Swiggy, as I am not aware if Swiggy has the option to cash out immediately. With Swiggy you are either transferring to wallet or purchasing a large item. This is better than it being transferred to a bank account which can be cashed out.
The hope here is that Swiggy would have a trail and knowledge about how the money was used. To completely empty 2 lacs in Swiggy needs 30 mins atleast.
Following up with both Swiggy and HDFC, will update how it goes. Let me know if you have any insights on how this scam works.
English

True, but the person did not share the OTPs voluntarily but rather captured with OTP notifications from the video call, 3-4 were generated but the call was cut as soon as they saw the OTPs and only one could be used by the scammers. It all depends on how the money was spent on Swiggy. Let's see
English

You are at Bank'e discretion. It all depends on the stance they take, true that settlement takes 24 hours but multi merchant scenario means end Fraudster would have got the money and used it by now.
Swiggy and bank settlement may be 24-48 hours.
Cyber crime is a hit and miss, unless you have contacts. Cyber police will push to respective local wings.
I hope the Bank takes a soft stance and favours the innocent @AskEnvici.
English

OTP was not shared but stolen , the video call link grabbed the OTPs when notifications came, easy to prove as a cluster of OTPs were generated at the same time. So it is different from the person sharing the OTPs themselves, rather the person cut the call as soon as they could to prevent other OTPs being activated. But let's see, it was sophisticated but nothing was given voluntarily
English

@AskEnvici Difficult to get this back since OTP was shared. If the transaction happens without the OTP, they'll reverse the amount.
English

@ShivajiSin41315 @Kapilsja I think credit cards have a bit more protection than just a direct transfer. Let's see how it goes
English

@AskEnvici @Kapilsja It was a transaction authorised by the cardholder by sharing the otp. There is no relevance with the first 24hrs or next 30 days here.
The scammed otp is not a valid reason for the bank to support the chargeback/dispute. Only works if the merchant is at fault.
English

@Tarun_khokhar12 Yes, but my point is that scams happen with UPI. NetBanking, Debit Cards and with Credit Cards. Credit Cards have delayed settlements of 6 hours to 24 hours and a chargeback option, shouldn't that provide some extra protection?
English

@RewardsMaverick Yes, but my point is that scams happen with UPI. NetBanking, Debit Cards and with Credit Cards. Credit Cards have delayed settlements of 6 hours to 24 hours and a chargeback option, shouldn't that provide some extra protection?
English

@AskEnvici Banks have limited liability in case the negligence was from customer side where the customer shared login. Any loss after the reporting to bank, the bank takes care of it
This is SBI. I'm assuming other banks follow similar rules
Could also depend on proving the case
English

@indianccgeek Since it was reported immediately and banks take 24 hours to settle the amount, on what basis would they reject the dispute ?
Even for confirmed genuine transactions, bank provide chargeback months later.
Surely it has to be better with credit cards than a bank transfer
English

@AskEnvici This falls under cybercrime. I hope they have raised an official complaint. As the OTP was shared, the bank will most likely reject the chargeback.
English

@CreditCardsInd This is a credit card transaction reported immediately, the bank settles it only after a few hours or maybe 24 hours. And it has not gone to anyone's account but rather an online payment. How does this play into it ?
English

Happened with me last year and I got my money back
Follow up with the nearest cyber cell police station and take help from an advocate, he will help you in getting money from the fraudsters account by getting the order from the court.
Once court gives the permission, bank has to revert the transaction on priority.
