Road carnage continues to claim many lives, and as a country, we must urgently address this menace. We strongly condemn the reckless truck driver responsible for the tragic accident at Malaha Junction in Webuye Sub-County, Bungoma, which claimed 15 lives. More than 21 people are currently admitted to various hospitals, with two requiring urgent specialised treatment, and arrangements have been made for their referral. The National Transport and Safety Authority must act swiftly to ensure such dangerous drivers are removed from our roads. Our courts must also take the growing recklessness on our roads seriously; those who endanger lives must face the full force of the law. To Members of Parliament, we must tighten the rules and regulations governing the transport sector. H.E. President Dr. William Ruto has assured government support to the bereaved families, while the County Government will cater for the medical expenses of all those injured. A funeral committee has been formed, led by Webuye East MP Hon. Martin Wanyonyi Pepela and Bungoma Woman Representative Hon. Catherine Wambilianga, together with Deputy Governor H.E. Pst. Janepher Chemtai Mbatiany and Members of the County Assembly, to coordinate burial arrangements for the victims. I have come across several videos of young men sexually harassing girls in the name of content. It is shocking that such acts are being viewed as entertainment. I can not begin to imagine the trauma a girl goes through in such an ordeal, surrounded by boys who, instead of protecting or defending her dignity, stand aside and entertain this diabolic abomination. What then happens if she tries to defend herself? This is why the online space must be regulated.
