Leadership starts with listening. When we truly hear the people we serve, we build trust, strengthen relationships, and make better decisions.

Tied at 103-103. Carter Bryant hits a go ahead 3. After a back to back against the Pistons and Clippers.
This team might be young. But Bright lights bring out the best in this team. Carter Bryant is Special man.

Kid plays hard and has a motor that doesn’t stop!

Since Jan 19 when Carter Bryant got into the rotation (20 games) he has averaged: 6 points on 44/39 (3.1 3PA) splits 3 rebounds 1 assist 1 stock Numbers don’t show his full impact evidenced by last night where he willed the Spurs to a 25-pt comeback win:

Our excuses aren’t special.
Everyone is busy. Everyone is tired. Everyone has obstacles.
Integrity takes ownership. Excellence finds a way.
Circumstances don’t define leaders, mindset does.
Lead with integrity. Execute with excellence.

I'll never forget the moment it clicked.
It's the 2015 District meet.
My distance boys are warming up.
And I'm walking around giving instructions to athletes who already know what to do.
"Make sure you get your strides in."
"Don't forget to check in at the clerk."
"Stay loose between events."
They knew all of this.
We'd done it a hundred times.
But I kept talking.
Because talking made me feel like I was in control.
One of my seniors looked at me mid-stride and said, "Coach, we're good."
Not rude.
Just honest.
I walked back to the end zone and watched them finish warming up without me hovering over them.
They looked calm.
Relaxed.
Ready.
I was the one who wasn't ready.
That was the day I realized I'd been coaching my nerves, not my team.
Every extra instruction was me trying to manage my own anxiety by staying busy.
Now at big meets, I say less than I do at practice.
My athletes don't need a different coach when it matters.
They need the same one.

A man brought his 8-year-old son into my barbershop yesterday. The boy had headphones on and was staring at the floor. The dad leaned in and whispered, "He’s autistic. He hates the sound of the clippers. Last time, we had to leave halfway through."
The shop was full. Usually, it’s all loud music and "shop talk."
I didn't say a word. I just walked over to the volume knob and turned off the music. I looked at the other four barbers. Without me saying a thing, they stopped talking. They put down their electric clippers and picked up their shears.
For thirty minutes, the entire shop went silent. The only sound was the snip-snip-snip of scissors.
The little boy sat perfectly still. He felt safe. When I was done, he looked in the mirror, gave a tiny smile, and high-fived me.
The dad tried to pay me double. I wouldn't take it.
"We’re a community," I told him. "And today, the community decided to be quiet."
You don't need a loud voice to make a difference. Sometimes, you just need to know when to be still.
