It’s been a wild ride for the past 6 years of Assistant Professor life at UT, growing a research group amidst a global pandemic and growing my family. Happy and proud to be leveling up today to Associate Professor with tenure. Here’s to the next 6 years!
@toomanyspectra What program? We’re still running lots of undergrad-centered research here at UT despite SB 17, targeting students from many different backgrounds!
today i googled an REU program in Texas for a student who wanted to start doing research and then had to explain to her that the program had been shut down because it was considered “DEI” what a grim fucking world we live in
Some more exciting news: I will be joining the faculty at University of Maryland’s Department of Astronomy starting Fall 2025! @UMDAstronomy@UofMaryland
Tbh I had to google what a terrapin was but I’m so excited to have this cute little guy as a mascot. 😄
Good news! HEB is selling eclipse cakes, which means we can all eat our feelings on Monday as the clouds roll in and block the view of the actual eclipse #atxwx#txwx
We live <2 miles from the Moody Center, which seats 15,000 people for concerts. Like any arena, parking is annoying/expensive and ride shares are congested. The fastest way to get there for us is by bike…. And as far as we can tell, we are the only people who EVER bike there
@bmac_astro We bought Gloomhaven in ~March 2020 and played ~5 or 6 times before our May 2020 baby.... then zero times until now! It took us an hour and a half just to figure out where we left off 4 years ago
My husband and I did “Dry January” this year, so we figured we had to add something to replace the nightly beer. We decided on board games, which typically just decorate our house. We played a board game every night!
@astrosteven I like Codenames: Duet — I’ve always liked Codenames, and the 2-player version is good. Tokaido is a sleeper hit — not too stressful, pretty fast with two players for a weeknight. Gloomhaven is complicated, intense, and stressful, but a good game for two.
Y’all I’m SO EXCITED for you to see not one but TWO big modeling papers by the greater Sonora empire of modelers on ArXiv TONIGHT! Including a paper that includes the work I started 5 years, 2 babies, and 1 pandemic ago.
This is funded by a NASA TCAN grant and has "nodes" in New York (AMNH) and Silicon Valley (NASA Ames) -- so there could be options to travel frequently to these locations too.
I'm advertising a position to join our modeling efforts to bring GPUs and machine learning/AI into both self-consistent and retrieval models for exoplanets. If you have interest in either ML/AI or in modeling brown dwarfs/exoplanets, please apply! due 2/12 jobregister.aas.org/ad/0395a595
