I just found something interesting hidden on the SpaceX website
Go to:
SpaceX.com → Human Spaceflight → Space Station → scroll all the way down → “Play Now”
It’s a live Dragon docking simulator where you try docking with the ISS yourself
And really… this game is way trickier than it looks
You think it’ll be simple until the capsule starts drifting sideways and rotating at the same time 😭
Made me realize how insanely precise real docking actually is. The controls, timing, movement… everything has to be perfect

@PaulineHansonOz We should have gone with Nuclear as a base, gas turbines for the intermediate loads when the grid needs it, and Solar on property instead of taking up land.
Green energy does not equal smart energy.

Australia had some of the cheapest electricity in the world in the 2000's when Liddell Power Station was in the prime of its life.
Today, this government is celebrating literally blowing up Liddell with nothing to replace it and deliver cheap electricity.
This madness has to end. This destruction of productive infrastructure is a national shame not something to celebrate.
End Net-Zero. Withdraw from the Paris Agreement. Build Coal.

@Red_Scout_Meme Space X is 100% cooking with their R&D, The Shuttles tiles were reusable yes, but were still fragile. and a nightmare to replace if needed. StarShips tiles are to fix what drawbacks the Shuttles tiles had.
English

It's important to consider that the shuttle only had it's first flight manned because simply the shuttle couldn't fly unmanned. Even for that era it was a very reckless thing for NASA and really any space agency to do.
Starship on the other hand is a different monster than the shuttle (tho tbf the shuttle was also different than anything else prior)
This is just the kind of thing you wanna expect from the kind of R&D SpaceX does compared to shuttle era NASA. There's so much about this platform that has never been done before that step by step is what SpaceX has decided is the best route for the program to take.
Also Starship heatshield tiles are planned to be reusable, unlike the shuttle which needed replacement and refurbishment after every flight. Especially when considering the insanely high launch cadence Starship is planned for.

your friendly reminder that spacex has failed to achieve in 12 flights what the shuttle achieved in 1....45 YEARS AGO. A reusable heatshield! Yup starship uses exactly the same tiles as this thing!
