RED FLAG: The Trump Justice Department has demanded the identities of every worker who staffed the 2020 election in Fulton County, Georgia, according to court records reviewed by NYT. The demand targets employees of Fulton County elections as well as volunteer poll workers, who likely numbered in the thousands during the 2020 election. nytimes.com/2026/05/04/us/…

A 17-year-old girl gave birth to a baby in a bathroom, and the baby fell into the toilet and died. The court determined that she had to give birth alone without help from her family or boyfriend, and that she was unable to respond appropriately to the situation due to shock. Nevertheless, she was sentenced to 2 to 2 and a half years in prison. A man in his 40s filled a bathtub with water, placed his 3-year-old daughter inside, and then left the house to buy coffee and cigarettes. His daughter died, and he received a suspended sentence. lawtalknews.co.kr/article/7WDFOJ… naver.me/FCAjpQme

I went to donate blood and afterwards I got a letter that I can’t donate blood ever again in the UK because my blood contains malaria antibodies. Antibodies not antigens; meaning I have immunity against malaria. Which sounds like a good thing. Because it means at some point, I’ve been obviously exposed. My body has seen malaria before and learned how to fight it. But those antibodies, protective for me, create uncertainty for someone else receiving my blood who has never had malaria. So a risk of reactivation cannot be completely ruled out. So even though I’m well, even though I’m protected, even though there’s no active infection that history alone is enough to exclude me. But the problem is that there would people like me who have been exposed to malaria in their lifetime living in the UK that would benefit from me donating blood to them. The complete ban for people in my category excludes thousands of us from being able to help others if needed. It leaves a risk of not enough blood products being available for a small group of people in life-threatening conditions. And that’s the tension. A system designed to protect ends up excluding a group that could also help sustain it. Safety is non-negotiable in transfusion medicine but so is access. The question isn’t whether caution is justified. It is whether policies are evolving fast enough to balance risk with reality. Because as medicine advances, screening should improves as well. And perhaps one day, the same antibodies that exclude us now will be understood well enough to include us again. Until then, a part of the donor pool remains willing but unused.

Gilmore met a Nigerian man in the UK who said he’d been advised by UK health authorities not to donate blood in the UK, after tests showed traces of a malaria parasite still present in his system from the 10–12 years he lived in Nigeria 😭

You see this kind of thing in struggling lower-income Southern households, and it tells a very specific story. When life hasn't delivered much.... no wealth, no power, no real social standing.... some folks discover that white supremacy is basically a free membership card to a club that makes them feel superior without requiring any actual achievement. It's the world's laziest status symbol. The starter kit is always the same: *A Confederate flag honoring a war their ancestors lost badly 160 years ago. *A gun they'll never actually need. *A Bible they've never actually read. *And Fox News running 24/7 telling them they're REAL Americans.... unlike those fancy elitist Democrats who are secretly importing an army of replacement voters to steal their.... Their what exactly? Their Dollar General? Their 1987 Camaro on cinder blocks in the yard? FOX found the formula, and they never let go of it: Take a man who has nothing, tell him the reason he has nothing is because those people are taking it.... and suddenly he's not a struggling nobody. He's a soldier in a cultural war. He matters. He's relevant. He becomes a MAGA Warrior! And THAT.... ladies and gentlemen.... is precisely how a twice-impeached, four-times-indicted, 34-time felon, bankrupt New York con man who golfs at his own resorts became the hero of the working man. You genuinely cannot make this stuff up. And I write this so that hopefully they will recognize what they have done and what they are doing and snap out of it..... I was born and raised in Appalachia ... These very people could be my relatives ..... but ... I .... got common sense from my granny ----- "question everything". VIA~Lee Murphy

Harvard scientists ran a simple test. They put adults under blue light for 6 hours one night, then under green light at the same brightness the next. Blue light pushed their bedtimes back by 3 hours. Green pushed them back by 1.5. And in kids, the same lights hit about twice as hard. The reason comes down to a tiny patch of cells at the back of every human eye. These cells have one job. They tell your brain whether it is day or night. They wake up most when light hits a very specific shade of blue, the same shade phone screens and modern bulbs are loaded with. When those cells fire after dark, the brain stops making melatonin, the chemical that pulls you toward sleep. Red light barely sets off those cells at all. A 2025 study from the University of Zaragoza put people under red lamps and blue lamps for three hours at night. Under blue, their melatonin stayed scraped to the floor. Under red, it climbed back up to more than three times higher. Same brightness. The color did all the work. Children get this worse than adults. Two reasons. Their pupils are bigger, so more light gets in. And the lens inside a kid's eye is still glass-clear, where adult lenses slowly yellow with age and filter blue out naturally. A 10-year-old's body clock is roughly twice as sensitive to evening light as a 45-year-old's. A bedside lamp that feels harmless to a parent can be wrecking a kid's sleep clock at the same time. Then there is the lag. Once the brain catches a dose of blue light, the wake-up signal it sends out keeps echoing for 3 to 4 hours after the lights go off. So a kid on an iPad at 9pm can still be wired at midnight even if you took the iPad away at 9:01. Modern LED bulbs and screens are tuned to roughly 6500 Kelvin. That is sunlight at noon. Old incandescent bulbs sit around 2700, mostly red and yellow with almost nothing in the blue range. To a human eye, a red-lit room is just about as close to no light at all as you can get. The brain reads it as nighttime. The fix is boring. Use warm bulbs at 2700 Kelvin or lower in any room a kid spends evenings in, switch off phones and tablets two hours before bed, and if a night light is needed for bathroom trips, make it red or amber. The science was pinned down to the exact color of light back in 2001.

Nephew apparently “never wants to go to sleep.” Apparently he’s in bed by 8 when there’s no blue light around.
