It’s very clear that this platform doesn’t align with our values. We know many people are leaving, for good reasons - but for now, we've decided to keep fighting for asylum rights here. Here’s why we’re NOT leaving, and what we’ll be doing differently from now on. A thread 🧵👇

The pressure is building. Our economy, our families and all of our communities will suffer if we force people into decades of limbo - it's time the Government admits it has got this one wrong. buff.ly/bBB5zmU

It's good to see more and more MPs showing the courage to say the obvious: trapping people for decades in limbo is bad for all of us. buff.ly/V4rlybW

Myranda has fought to build a life in Gateshead. She's forged a community she loves and that loves her. As she says here, forcing her into twenty years of terrifying limbo benefits absolutely no one. chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-eas…

Hostile policies and anti-migrant narratives are making people feel anxious, isolated and unwelcome. The Not A Stranger campaign reveals the harm dangerous 'earned settlement' plans are doing - and what YOU can do to challenge them: migrantsrights.org.uk/2026/03/10/ear…

One more example of how the Government's relentless ideological attack on people seeking sanctuary harms all of us. Talented students are denied places they've earned. Universities lose students they'd wanted to recruit. A pointless, cruel, lose-lose. ft.com/content/4493a0…

It's no surprise. Here's one example of why: the grant rate for initial claims from Afghanistan is 34%. The Foreign Office advises against all travel to "volatile" Afghanistan - it's a country we know is unsafe. So why would only 34% of people fleeing it need sanctuary?

Do you know what it's really like to seek #asylum as an #LGBTQI person in the UK? Our National Director and human rights activist Moud Goba, who fled Zimbabwe and sought asylum in the UK because of her lesbian identity, explains.

It's getting harder and harder for Government to ignore the outcry against appalling 'earned settlement' plan. Yesterday we joined hundreds from across the UK in Parliament, speaking directly to their MPs. The energy was incredible and the message clear: settlement is a right.

"Britain has decided that the girl who fought the Taliban’s agenda, who learned English in secret, who turned down a forced marriage, who won her place, is an asylum risk. Her name is Bahar. She is 18 years old. She did everything we asked of her." independent.co.uk/news/people/ne…

@daveburke21 It's great to see Labour MPs @Imran_HussainMP & @NadiaWhittomeMP having the courage to speak up against these appalling changes. To the rest of the Labour Government, we ask: is pushing sick children into destitution what you became an MP to do? If not, you must speak out.

"Humane". "Compassionate". "Fair". Just a few of the words the Government has used this week to describe its new asylum rules. This gaslighting won't work. Most people understand that locking up & forcibly deporting children is the opposite of humanity. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/m…

Except using the words people like doesn't mean the policy fits that description. Do the public want to spend millions every year re-checking the claims of recognised refugees, trapping them in constant anxiety so they struggle to 'contribute' or put down roots in community?

🧵Reading Mahmood's Op-Ed on migration reform, for all of the debate it does sit fairly squarely in mainstream of what public inc Lab 2024 voters want. Our research identifies 5Cs the public expect on migration: 1. Control 2. Compassion 3. Contribution 4. Competence 5. Community

‘Illegal Migrants’ don’t get housing or support. Asylum seekers, who are perfectly lawful, do. This continuous stream of misinformation from a Civil Service comms feed causes real life harm on people in hotels.
Home Office@ukhomeoffice

Illegal migrants who break the law, refuse to leave the country or work in the UK unlawfully will face losing their accommodation and financial support. The British taxpayer will no longer foot the bill for asylum seekers who break the rules or can support themselves.

The government's fresh wave of asylum policy proposals are incoherent and cruel. They risk making our already brutal asylum system impossible to survive, while recreating measures that already exist and failing to establish genuine routes to safety. buff.ly/JmYiKns

A Thread on the continuation of the Emperor’s New Clothes asylum policies being announced to asylum support today. Essentially the policy proposal seems to be moving asylum support from a Duty to a power or discretion, meaning government can withdraw support.
