Breaking: The Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified INEC’s directive requiring political parties to submit their membership register by May 10, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Justice M.G. Umar ruled that political parties have until September 2026, in line with the Electoral Act 2026, to submit updated membership registers and candidates’ particulars.
The judgement is expected to give room for politicians who lost party primaries to defect to other parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

Q: What made you change your mind precisely?
A: Everybody that constituted the leadership at the top sat me down, and when your elders are talking to you, you have to listen. You can't work in isolation. The party says this is what they want, and if you are going to work under the rules, tenets, and constitution of the party, I think you just have to listen to them so that you don't get yourself into trouble.
- Samuel Ajose, Lagos APC governorship aspirant, speaking on withdrawing from the 2027 race.

The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has commended the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the party’s primary elections in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Fintiri gave the commendation while receiving the Chairman of the APC National Committee for the conduct of the primaries in Adamawa State, Innocent Barikor, alongside members of his team, at the Government House, Yola.
The Governor observed that the high level of preparation, coordination, and organisational discipline displayed by the party contributed immensely to the peaceful atmosphere witnessed during the exercise across the state.
He expressed optimism that the remaining stages of the primaries would equally proceed without rancour, disruption, or any threat to public peace.
Governor Fintiri also reaffirmed the commitment of the Adamawa State Government to providing adequate security and all necessary support required for the successful conclusion of the exercise.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, Professor Barikor disclosed that preliminary findings by the committee showed that the APC primaries for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections were conducted peacefully in various wards across the state.
According to him, election materials arrived at designated centres on schedule, a development he described as a clear demonstration of the party leadership’s commitment to credible, transparent, and well-coordinated primary elections.
Professor Barikor further expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout of party members during the exercise, noting that the participation reflected growing confidence in the democratic process.
He added that the developmental strides recorded under the administration of Governor Fintiri had inspired greater public interest and active participation in the political activities of the state.
In his remarks, the Adamawa State Chairman of the APC, Hamza Bello Madagali, stated that the committee had assured all aspirants of a level playing field throughout the primaries.
Alhaji Madagali called on aspirants and their supporters to remain peaceful, orderly, and law-abiding as the exercise progresses.
He also commended the party leadership for making available all necessary materials required for the smooth conduct of the elections.
The APC chairman reassured the people of Adamawa State of the party’s determination to conduct free, fair, credible, and transparent primary elections across the state.
