That was such an intense experience. Highs. Lows. The stress! From row 2. So close. Seeing Selby go from an absolute master in the first 5, to, something else. And those easy misses. Felt like they literally hurt me. Almost too much. But definitely not. I'm ecstatic with joy that this could crown my already amazing York trip. Wow. Just. Wow. I'm exhausted. Good night all. ❤️ snooker #Snooker #ukchampionship @WeAreWST @yorkbarbican

@InTheBalls147 Yes, 100%. It has helped me through difficult times in my life. Selby winning the worlds 2021 was the best experience of escapism I've ever had. On the other hand, there were moments when I was desperate to escape, but results didn't go my way and I totally lost it over that.

On another note: For me snooker is escapism. That's why it's so frustrating when it doesn't work (🙄). And that's why I sometimes prefer not to think from certain angles. But only all the best wishes to Amir Sarkhosh and Hossein Vafaei. On and off the table.

@Nick_Metcalfe @TalkingSnooker Your language skills have improved considerably since you last came to Cologne… maybe you can give @philhaigh_ some lessons over the next few weeks, and then we record the podcast in German?

What an absolute idiot. I suppose it's hard to not take stuff like that to heart over time, if one constantly get sent such messages (which I suspect you do, since the world is full of misogynistic, ill informed & sensitive butthurt men), but I hope you stay above this stuff... Don't let it drag you down. You're an absolute legend of the game, no matter what those idiots have to say. Stay strong, and keep going💪

Someone sedate the orange lunatic, it's world champs month. How are we supposed to focus on sticks hitting balls into pockets when the madman wants to destroy everything.

@StephaneFrey @esel_freund I think that is part of it, and also being too meek. I don't fault her. It'd tough to stand out, take a stand and "make a scene" about something in a language one hardly speaks.

@esel_freund @AtlinSnooker It may just be ignorance on my part, but every time I saw an interview with Bai Yulu, she had a translator. Not being comfortable with English might explain why she didn't really have a word with the referee, although she was visibly puzzled by the score.

@insightfulPlay8 Yes, if Bai would have gone on to lose the match, that'd been the worst possible outcome. So happy she's through.

@gary102kk30 Yeah, that is the part I cannot understand. What did Womersley do, and if nothing, why? He had to have known.

@AtlinSnooker Did the players not correct it ? Both players would've known the situation You know if you need a snooker or if your opponent does Poor show from the player missing the snooker if he's not corrected the scores ( assuming he's noticed the scoreboard updating incorrectly)

Bai v Wommersly. Bai up 7-4, down 32-62 in the 12th. Needs a snooker. Gets it. Score updates to 32-66, as in Wommersly got points for missing. Play continues on. What is going on!? Huge mistake from ref! Must be subject for some kind of sanction for the ref for a mistake like that, no!? Edit: Added clarity.

Can't disagree with that. What bring this issue particularly to the front for me, is that something was clearly mentioned at the time. You can see Bai looking at the score board more than once, and then also chatting with the ref about something... I can't believe it didn't have to do with the scoring issue. But even so, nothing happened. Why? All that to say.... Since I do not know what they talked about, this is all speculation, and I cannot be sure of anything...

@AtlinSnooker Speaking as an official (diff sport) the ref will feel horrible that an error has happened But "sanctions" is silly - Mistakes happen. In this case he pressed the wrong button which is not a hanging offense. Shows why players should also be aware of what is going on.

@esel_freund I hope we get more info on it, from somewhere official, but I doubt that. Would be good to hear what was said at the time. And, like you say, why it wasn't corrected.

@AtlinSnooker Points (especially foul points) being scored for the wrong player is a mistake that happens all the time. But usually one of the players notices soon and the mistake is corrected. Hard to tell from the stream how this went unnoticed (or uncorrected) in such a pivotal moment.

@esel_freund That is a fair point, and I guess I agree really. Was just such an elementary mistake, and while I didn't hear what was said, something was clearly noted, to some degree by Bai, but it didn't get dealt with. Felt so unfair. And Womersley would have to have known!?

@AtlinSnooker Yeah, I assumed that's what you've meant, but punishing a referee is just a cruel working environment. Clearly that wasn't intentional. Everybody makes mistakes occasionally.
