It's been a whirlwind month of observing trade/security expos, Berlin site visits, and project meetings, and I'm looking forward to some research time in Birmingham at last! Although I'll definitely miss the group fieldwork working with @AtmoCT_Sam @KathaCiax @ADrongiti

Back from an intensive week of #fieldwork research (observations, walk-alongs and interviews) in Berlin with the fellow researchers of the @AtmoCT. Amazing experience, rich data and great team work! @AtmoCT_Sam @AtmoCT_Carrie @KathaCiax can't wait to meet again!

Walking down Stratford road today I had 2(!) cars pull up onto the pavement right in front of me while I was standing/walking--was slightly jarring. Shops have put in mini bollards around their entrances to keep cars from parking. It's....wild.

Cars are out of control in Brum! Compared to London, drivers are better, but the car storage & pavement parking situation here is unlike anything I've seen, with the exception of archive photos from Paris in the 60s before they slapped bollards on all the pavements to stop it.

Auto-transcriptions always have little gems that need correcting. When I was teaching, 'Balzac' was auto-captioned as 'ball sack' in my lecture. Today's gem: 'counter-terrorism policing' became 'cat terrorism policing'. Obviously, not as funny as Balzac, but I chuckled.

Getting nervy that other countries are declaring a state of “calamity”… Crikey, planners we don’t have that in the lexicon. What do we do with a calamity? Props to the first LRF that declares a Calamity Co-Ordinating Group.

@_______holly @WorldBollard No idea, they might be. The railings actually looked newer, like they were there to protect the bollards (and to get pedestrians coming down the steps to descend in an orderly fashion and not trip over the bollards lol)

Which came first: the bollard or the railing? Follow up (genuine) question: bollards on stairs, what are they doing there? @WorldBollard -- what's going on in Birmingham?
