Explore 75 years of history at the newly renamed Nevada National Security Sites Gallery. From 1950 Cold War beginnings to modern innovation, the gallery brings the story of the NNSS to life. @NNSANevada

Before atomic tests like Operation Plumbbob (1950s), scientists used inflated balloons to simulate conditions and gather data. These runs were crucial for studying the effects and safety of detonations at the Nevada Test Site.

During Upshot-Knothole Encore, 2,000+ troops advanced beneath a spectacular blast. As part of Camp Desert Rock, these exercises trained soldiers to operate in a nuclear environment.
