During the day, Route 66 is a fun, kitschy place. But late at night, it can be something else. And that can be fun, too.

I was up early yesterday, so I went out to take some pictures. You can find a lot of interesting things on Route 66 in Tulsa.

I drove by this place recently. It reminds me of the boarding station for the old Time Travel Experience attraction. This was my favorite ride at the Andromeda Factory when I was a kid. I felt like I was actually traveling through time.

What is the most memorable thing that you saw at a theme park, amusement park, carnival, circus, or state fair? Okay, I'll go first. Tulsa State Fair - I was 8, and the sky was dark. I talked my parents into letting me see the sideshow attraction where the lady turned into a gorilla. I went inside the crowded tent. The young woman wore a bikini and was locked up and chained in a cage. So far, so good. I couldn't understand the sideshow barker because his mic was very distorted. The lights went down, smoke came out of nowhere, and bright red lights flashed on and off from behind the cage. And then, the growling. This woman made the most frightening, guttural screams I've ever heard. I will never forget it. Frozen in place, I watched her transform. The screams transitioned from human to ape - horrific utterances. After the transformation was complete, the gorilla freaked out and broke out of the chains. Everybody screamed as the giant ape grabbed the bars of the cage and shook. Of course, it escaped. And that's the last thing I remember. To this day, whenever I see a young woman in a bikini, I get as far away from her as possible. So far, so good.

This picture reminds me of that creepy diorama of a small town they used to have at the Andromeda Factory. If you looked at it long enough, you would sometimes see tiny people moving around inside the buildings near the windows. It was unsettling, but I could never look away. Does anybody remember it?

We just had dinner at @TheHauntedCLE !! We had a great time. The service was great, the food was amazing, and what can we say we love the horror atmosphere. Now for the food. Jen had THE SLIMER Green waffle sandwich with housemade sausage, egg, cheese, candied bacon, maple syrup. I’m more on the plain side so I had FREDDY CHICKEN FINGER PLATTER 5 Chicken tenders with a side of fries. We will be sharing some more things soon from the Haunted House Restaurant including Jen’s birthday surprise.

Back in the early '50s, the Andromeda Factory had a small radio broadcast facility that was located not too far from here on Route 66. When I was a young kid, I heard whispered rumors about the Halloween broadcast of 1953. Details are... sketchy. All I know is that something terrible happened. No one wants to talk about it these days. I can't find any references to it online and my visits to the library haven't turned up anything. Like it never happened.
