Our Music Charts show that music tastes on Roblox are totally different than Spotify and YouTube Shorts. Phonk, Anime, and Lo-Fi are the top player searches on Roblox, but not Spotify. Only a few of the meme tracks on YouTube Shorts (like NO BATIDÃO) cross over to Roblox. Roblox studios don't have audio specialists. That's a problem when targeting the 18+ players from Steam. It hasn't mattered before because existing Roblox players don't expect more. But listen to the audio gap between a Steam-class game and a typical Roblox game today: 20 seconds. Roblox studios aren't going to hire 15-person sound teams to close that gap. On June 8, Roblox flips the switch on 18+ games — and devs will have to level-up their game audio to match Steam game quality. @joeferencz from @gamefamstudios wrote a great article describing how Roblox's new age-gating system will unlock the 18+ market and give developers expanded creative potential and a 35% rev-share for 18+ games. He defines a "midcore" 18+ game tier with Steam-style multiplayer gameplay. If successful, this would pull Steam players to Roblox and further grow the company's market share. These players coming from Steam will expect far higher production value, and devs will have to level up on quality. One of those investments is pro quality audio, and that will be a big learning curve and cost center. Sound design experts. Deep understanding of the Roblox Audio APIs and audio bus architecture, mixing, music curation and programming, beat-sync timing, and music live ops. This is a product gap we've been closing at Audioscape — tools to allow Roblox devs to achieve "Steam-quality" audio without the traditional production overhead. The Roblox devs who shipped Adopt Me at 18, and are now ready to build for adults, shouldn't have to hire a sound team to compete with Steam-class games. @tobuofficial's music plays in Roblox games with 29.4 billion player visits. Turns out he's not alone: there are hundreds of artists with huge exposure that we're uncovering for the first time. From our data, 1,783 @DistroKid artists have their music featured in Roblox games. We're starting to surface an ecosystem nobody has measured before. Together, these 1,783 artists' music plays in games with 569.6 billion combined lifetime visits. At a 5% exposure rate, that's roughly 28.5 billion song exposures to Roblox players. 3 artists are in 50+ games. Tobu is one of them. 18 are in 25+ games. 80 are in more than 10 games. This ecosystem is getting even stronger as we connect all the pieces of the flywheel. In this case: showing artists where their music is used, and connecting them to their community on Roblox. @tobuofficial has more potential song exposures on #Roblox than BTS's "Dynamite" has on Spotify. Electronic music producer Tobu's tracks play in Roblox games with 29.4 billion combined lifetime visits. At a 5% exposure rate, that's 1.5 billion plays of his music. Bigger than BTS's biggest Spotify hit. Six of Roblox's billion-visit games feature Tobu's tracks: Jailbreak (7.9B), Jujutsu Shenanigans (4.9B), Slap Battles (3.4B), Sol's RNG (1.8B), Restaurant Tycoon 2 (1.6B), and FIFA Super Soccer (1.1B). Plus 50 more games. His track "Sunburst" alone is in 31 of them. Tobu has one of the deepest indie catalogs in active rotation on Roblox: 26 tracks across 56 games at 87% approval. Until last week, he had no way to see any of this data. Our Artist Dashboard on Bloxtunes shows artists exactly which games are playing their music. We went inside the top 100 Roblox games and classified every track by genre. Then we compared it to what players search for. The mismatch is huge (again). Players search for K-Pop (28%), Video Game music (15%), and Phonk (12%). Those three genres make up 54% of player demand -- but they make up less than 1% of the music developers put in their games. Developers chose Electronic (23%), Pop (10%), Cinematic (7%). Not what players are searching for. This isn't a library problem. K-Pop, Phonk, and Video Game music all exist in the 570,000-track Roblox library. Over the past two weeks I've shown how players generate signals, how the platform surfaces the data, how developers optimize music, and how better music drives engagement. Today: Artists respond to demand. We're launching the Bloxtunes Artist Dashboard -- a way for music artists to connect with the Roblox platform and its 380 million monthly active players. Right now, if you're an artist with music on Roblox, you're invisible. You can't see how many players have heard your tracks, what music genres are popular, or even find your songs on the platform. You have no way to build community with the players who love your music. The artist dashboard changes that. Track-level previews, favorites, trending data. Full catalog visibility. "The developer's taste in music is so bad that even my cat had to run out of my room." (Actual Roblox user comment on our game Rhythm Run) -- they were right! We thought players would love Tech House music for our beat-synced Obby. But then we checked our music sentiment dashboard . . . 60% of player searches were for K-Pop artists -- BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids. Players were downvoting Tech House and telling us about it in the comments. So we added K-Pop to the soundtrack based on the search data, and music approval went from 42% to 52%. K-Pop tracks hit 55% approval. The music that felt right to us as developers was wrong for the actual audience. The only way we knew was because the data told us. This is the flywheel in practice. Last week I described the music flywheel that should exist in gaming. Today we're launching the first piece: the music dashboard for devs. Our new music sentiment dashboard gives Roblox developers something they've never had: real-time data on how players respond to music in their game. Most developers pick a song once and hard-code it forever. With this tool, music becomes something you optimize -- the same way you optimize game mechanics, UI, and monetization. This is the feedback loop that's been missing from music in gaming. Players generate signal. The platform surfaces it. Developers act on it. Engagement goes up. We used this system in our own game and saw engagement and retention improve significantly when we changed the music based on player data. 84% of songs on the Billboard Global 200 first went viral on TikTok. What if Roblox had that same influence on music?
